Ooh, this one I might actually be able to drive to (can't really afford to fly, part of why I've missed the others) - compared to the others so far (including Lumos), this one's actually fairly close! ;) Well, 11 hours isn't really close, but it's a lot more feasible than Salem was.
Yay! It took us about 15 hours to hit the Gulf when we went down to LA in 1997. I'm definitely flying in - it's worth saving 8 hours over $20 (which would be about all I'd save over driving, really).
Oklahoma really is kind of in the middle of nowhere, eh?
If Skeeter and I drive we could pick you up at the airport. If anyone knows how to have a good time in NO it's me and my husband. Come hungry, and thirsty!
Ohio to LA? Definitely a flying trip. ;) I drove to a con in Indy last April, and it seems about as equidistant from OKC as New Orleans - the gas $$ was hideous, but if I have one or two people with me to split it like we did for Indy, that'll definitely be cheaper than flying. And 11 hours of driving between 3 people isn't too bad. ;) (Having our own transportation made it a lot easier to get around town, too.) I'm going to have to dangle this in front of some people and see what I come up with in the way of travel buddies, heh.
And yeah, not a lot here except for wildfires. ;) Not even any decent fan meetups.
Donna girl, I am so going to this one. We were scraping together what we could find to go to Lumos and wondering how we could do it... But if we go to this one I can see my whole family. I'm so homesick and happy right now I'm misty-eyed. My sister sent me before and after pictures of Katrina damage to the Gulf Coast today and I wept I missed them all so much. Skeeter and I honeymooned in New Orleans and to go back would be a dream. I know Katrina has changed everything, but I need to go home. Who knows, maybe even relocate. I just miss home in the worst way. I know what it means, as the song puts it.
I hope you can! This is the con that is sponsored by the group that split from HPEF...IIRC, HPEF is trying to have the 2007 con in England, which I KNOW I won't be able to make. Trop cher. :(
Yeah, I didn't even know there was a group that split from the HPEF. I dunno if I'd be able to afford it but we'll see. I'm lucky that Lumos is pretty easy for me as Vegas is only a 5 hour drive from here.
If we're still in Texas, I will definitely be there! It's only a 5 hour drive from here. :D I haven't been to NO since the hurricane, but we hope to go this year, maybe for Jazz Fest if it's still on. Thanks for the link!
