Do you all remember my problem employee?

It's been a damned hard row to hoe, let me tell you. I spent three months writing her annual evaluation, documenting all of her deviations from the minimum standards, her flauting of policy, and her lack of respect for her job. I requested her previous evaluations, and they all said the exact same things I was mentioning about her tardiness, her frequent call-offs, and general lack of work ethic. She, of course, denied all of these things (which, considering that even administrative staff, including HR and the Associate Director had been watching her on a regular basis, was a stupid thing to do).

In the interim, she's toed the line, but just barely.

But Thursday? Last Thursday? She turned in her resignation.

*pumps fist*

(For some reason, she thinks that because she turned in a letter of resignation, it will excuse her for not giving two weeks notice. She's also under the impression that she will still be eligible for future employment. Considering she never reached an 'acceptable' in Attendance, Policies and Procedures, or Decision Making in the three years she worked here, there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that she'll ever work for this system - possibly any library, for that matter - again.)

I wish her luck.

Well, hooray for you!
More importantly, how on earth did I miss the fact that you're a librarian from Ohio?? I'm a future librarian in Ohio.... close enough I guess. ;) Or maybe I did know and I forgot... my brain's gone all wonky lately. Bad shelvers are to have sticks shaken at them menacingly.

Well, I'm not a librarian...I'm a supervisor in the Circulation department of a library.

I dunno if I want to go to MLIS school, though. Haven't been much impressed with most of the folks here, unfortunately.

Hm, well I guess I've been lucky to have encountered pretty stellar reference staff in the libraries I've been to, though where my dad works he says pretty much everyone is a big doofus and wouldn't know a database from a hole in the ground. As a child I always vowed I'd never be a librarian (both my parents are), but here I am applying to library schools. Go figure.

Hee at your icon. And yay, fabulous that the bane of your librarian existence is slinking off on her own. Saves you the trouble (and potential ulcers) of having to document her into oblivion.

Yep, and I got an email from our HR director, who will inform this person that she is not eligible for rehire (not that she would ever work here again anyway).

I can officially wash my hands of her come March 22! :)

Congratulations! I'm sure that's a load off, and now you can hire someone who is actually productive. And you can get your revenge with all your conscientious documentation. ;->

*YES*!

I'm really glad for you! It's always such a pleasure when they finally see the light, isn't it? What a really, really cool thing.

I'm happy for you. That's great news!
