Damn, my feet hurt. Had to work the full twelve hours today. Half the staff is sick, it seems, on any given day. And I am not cruel enough to leave the department with only four people on a Monday night.
I just wonder how in the *hell* I managed to work three jobs (yes, all at once), go to school full-time, take care of my mom, and party like a normal college co-ed for five years without dying. Now, 10 hours is pushing it for me. I made three cash register mistakes and could barely hit the keys hard enough to make the damn computer work. I'm so old. Hell, I can barely function on 5 hours of sleep. *cries*
But, on the bright side, had annual evaluation with Problem Employee. Came out of that feeling pretty positive that she knows that I'm watching, I have the backing of upper management and she has to be accountable to the standards set for her position. Coached another employee who seems to need reigned in every six months or so. Met with desk supervisors. Realized that between the two libraries (we are composed of two branch libraries with one board, and we share the same computer system with Columbus Met Library) it's an entirely different world.
Has anyone ever compared The One-Minute Manager with The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People? I'm a big proponent of principle-centered leadership, while my boss likes the in-your-face mentality of the One-Minute philosophy. I wonder if the two can be integrated - lose the confrontational nature of One-Minute and firm up the structure of the Seven Habits - and still have a very easy to work system. Anyone? Bueller? Or does anyone work under a different system that they are happy with?
Nothing interesting of note lately. Have not worked on ANIP for a couple of days.
1anonymous1, sorry I keep missing you on AIM. Will be on more after Wednesday, I think.
