So starts the long postings about Nimbus
Jul. 22nd, 2003 03:31 amWould you all like a mercy cut? Okay.
I got to Orlando in one piece and with my lunch in its proper place (with much thanks to
seakays for her advice on how to avoid airsickness). Flying is not my cuppa, baby. I'll be driving to Florida next time, I think.
Drove around, got the lay of the land, ate seafood. Ick, got sick - I'm not used to the fresh stuff. Checked into the hotel and wrangled money and a free ticket to Pleasure Island. Went to bed.
Thursday morning, I got up and went to a sales pitch for a timeshare community. I'm seriously thinking that when Honeybunch and I get a house, we'll buy a Florida timeshare at the same time. My sales rep was very nice (I was really worried when I walked in and saw some greasy car-salesman-looking reps) and he understood that I couldn't buy anything at the moment but gave me the full tour anyway. I got breakfast, $50 and my ticket to Pleasure Island. It was worth the 2 hour sales pitch, definitely.
Thursday night was overwhelming to say the least. My family and friends tend to view my Potter obsession with somewhat condescending amusement, which makes me feel a little bit creepy-geeky, like the folks from Trekkies. I am by no means a Potter maniac, evidenced by the fact that I showed up in civilian clothing (read not dressed in full Hogwarts attire). Whether this is good or bad, I've yet to figure out. So, chatted with people in the very long line for registration to steel myself for the inevitable meet and greet before the MWPP forum. There were many more kids there than I expected; I wondered if their parents actually knew what they were getting into when they agreed to accompany their younguns here (although during the slash panel I sat with the mother and grandmother of an adult attendee, and boy, they were just having a little too much fun!).
And who do I run into first but
msscribe, who was looking fly, I must say. She introduced me to her crew, and yes, she is remarkably like her LJ persona. Wandered through the art area again, and met up with
chickadilly and
redblaze. Caught up with
queerasjohn for a second; he looks so much like my childhood friend Steve that I was rendered utterly mute around him for the rest of the session. Odd, because I tend to buddy up to folks who remind me of people I already know and love. The possible reason for that is a topic for another post. So, John, loffed you in all your roles, even though I didn't really get to fangirl you properly in person. I am normally not so reticent.
Then I moved up to the Pumpkin Pie crowd -
eibbil_libbie,
ladycadey,
smilie117,
reneec,
angiej,
megd,
siriologist, and
zorb. Met
littletort and
slytherincess and loff them muchly. Sorry to have had to wake you all up Sunday morning!
Also met
pervy_elf,
fille_joyeuse and
nyx_wench during the evening. I think I met
serpentigena then too. Did not introduce myself to
aegeus, who looked quite shy at the start of this, or
praetorianguard, who looked harried and busy everytime I caught a glimpse of her. To my grand joy,
the_tonio was lurking in the shadows (he just couldn't miss out on a chance to view such beautiful fangirls), and he ever-so-charmingly persuaded me into conversation, which quickly turned to my complimenting his manly physique and amazing writing abilites. *swoons*
Boy, I hope I'm not forgetting anybody. I had to have a couple of beers to get calmed down during all of this; that and time passing has made the details fuzzy. And I always try to be careful in these situations not to accidentally snub anyone, since first impressions tend to be lasting. Needless to say, I ended up exhausted from all of the socializing and the need to pay attention to things like that.
And looking at the list of folks who are under 'nimbus_attendee', WHERE THE FUCK WAS I?!? I didn't get to meet so many of you! *cries miserably*
The MWPP panel was interesting, even though I'm not a big fan of the Marauders in their entirety.
I'll give more details and start the shoutouts in the next post. My friends listing has exploded; please don't be offended if I don't friend you back immediately - I just want to get to sleep in my own bed again.
