Ahoy, friends in Lj-land!  I'm sorry to say that life has eaten what was left of mah brain and most of my body as well.  Staying up past 11pm or so is a feat, and on the weekends - forget it!  Literally, half of my labor day weekend was spent sleeping - I don't think I've spent that much time asleep (without the aid of narcotics) for years.

I'll cut all this crap, so you can read whatever is of interest to you.

My brother is home.  He is still suffering with moderate to severe memory loss, both short and mid-term memory.  Day to day he's still not sure about a lot of things, where things are.  The doctor's opinion right now - he cannot work, period.  His general personality is the same, and he concedes that a lot of the things that have happened over the past few years are probably due to his heart disease.  Still, I'm hopeful that he'll get better sooner rather than later, and he'll be the person he was five years ago - that'd be nice.

Lesson #1:  always get the biggest DISABILITY insurance policy you can afford, and only what you absolutely need for life insurance.  *checks that off the list*

Things here continue apace.  I've come to realize that I'm overtraining again...gaining weight because I'm cycling too much, injuring and re-injuring myself, etc.  I ripped my shoulder muscle when I fell off my bike, then ripped my left pectoral muscle (an old injury that reasserts itself if I hurt my shoulders/back), and hurt my left foot on a run.  Yesterday I went climbing for the first time in 2.5 weeks...and woke up to cramping forearms, of all things.  I'm falling apart, LOL!!

The plan was to go back to 3-4 workouts a week, TOPS, NO EXCUSES, but...I signed up for a Tuesday am toning class with some folks from work (I do a toning class Monday night, so I'll just be working on my form on Tuesday am), then I want to keep climbing, and stress is driving me to ride whenever I have a spare minute...so yeah.  At least I've taken to running non-paved trails at Sharon Woods, and only 2 miles at a clip.

I did get Honeybunch to do 2.2 miles with me on Sunday, just walking.  That's something.  And I snuck in some pureed carrots into the lasagna sauce yesterday.  :->  He's going to start on a healthier regimen, dammit, because I'll be damned if I'll have him keeling over on me.  If *I* kill him, that's one thing I can plan for...

Right now, the plan is to try and do both.  I have the hotel reservations, at least.  For Terminus, I can always switch out to a super-cheap hotel and drive/take the train to the Hilton.  My sister is planning to come to Chicago with me, so whatever happens is okay.  Chicago is only 6 hours from home, I know it, it's all good.  I may only do one/two day passes at Portus.

Paying for the rest of it...that's the thing.  Work harder!  Maybe I can get a job at Christmas time, or deliver pizzas.  Now that I'm over 30 (hell, over 25), the idea of working three jobs is unappealing!  I've been there, done that - I'm not 19 anymore.

Okay, for something a little more fun:  I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] faye_jan49

1. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
2. Tag seven people to do the same/link you to their list of quirks.
3. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag whoever wants to do it.

1. I hate massages.  I hate for strangers to touch me, especially when I've got very little on!  I do get sports massages, and I have to tell the massage therapist that I will most likely cry, and not to worry about it.  I also have a tendency to faint the day after I have a massage, and no one knows why.

2.  I would, however, like to have a full body wax.  I like to be as hairless as possible (and, tmi, but I'd like to be completely bare down there, but the stubble and upkeep are too much for me).

3. Conversely, I like hair on men.  Not gorilla-like fur, but the last thing that is attractive to me in a man is a bare chest.   The sexiest thing on a guy is the dusting of hair at the base of the spine...mmmm.  :D~

4. I have a compulsion to use things up - pens, lip gloss, etc.  I hate to lose these things before they are gone and I don't like to buy new until the old are used up.

5.  I spent a couple of years wondering if I might be gay, but that wasn't the issue.

6. I'm a liburrul with lots of unpopular opinions that are rather tinhatty in nature.  I'm pro-stripper, pro-prostitution, pro-choice, pro-gun, anti-corporation, pro-globalization, anti-WalMart, pro-immigration, anti-PeTA,  anti-war on drugs, and anti-children's rights.  9/11 is still up in the air, as is the moon landing, LOL.

7. My critical thinking skills have always been a burden and a hindrance to me.  Those of you who also possess them understand what I mean.

Hey! Glad to hear the bro is home. And your advice is sound. I need to get me some.

Good heavens on all the injuries. Take care of yourself.

RE: Portus...do you have a hotel room there yet? I'm bringing a colleague from the college, which will be fun. We're gonna drive over. I'm thinking we'd get a big room on the Exec level to take care of breakfast, internet & noshies in the pm. Wanna room with us?

That's good news about your brother :D

I'm currently planning to attend Terminus, assuming the DH will get with the program. I've been saving money for it (albeit not fast enough, as it's now less than a year away). Fortunately getting to and from Chicago is actually pretty cheap for me and I'm NOT planning to bring my car, because parking a car there is prohibitively expensive.

I'm very glad your brother's home, even if he's having some problems day today. That's okay. Things are getting better and as long as they are on the right side of the problem, that's the main point. :) Yay.

Take it easy on yourself. Please. Yes, good health is important. But, so is having parts that work properly. Just remember to keep things according to your own body, not according to someone else's chart. Torn ligaments, muscles, etc. are damn painful.

Hey, are you seriously interested in doing something easy for a part time job? *cough* If you can stand to do what I do, the field is expanding. Not just my company. It's really quite good.

Now I know why you and I can talk about so much shit with fairly good ease...

6. I'm a liburrul with lots of unpopular opinions that are rather tinhatty in nature. Right down to the moon-landing. I have some other tin-hattrick that I throw in there. But, I consider myself a Conservative with a whole bunch of unpopular opinions. Interesting. I wonder where you and I split. We might disagree on fiscal policy, but agree on individual rights. I'm rabid about taxes and governmental "services". I am pro-corporation - OTOH, I am anti-government-assisted corporate-monopoly. Especially when the entity is able to contract with the government and reach its fingers world-wide because of those ties. So, it's complicated.

Again, The question isn't if you are paranoid, it's if you are paranoid enough. (That's from the movie Strange Days, btw.)

7. My critical thinking skills have always been a burden and a hindrance to me. Those of you who also possess them understand what I mean.

Yep. I wish that I could get rid of them completely sometimes. I'm glad I have them sometimes. Remember what we talked about with the KT books? I don't think I've ever been taken in by something like that. But a LOT of people are.

Most people can't understand how I can be both against KT and extremely wary of the big pharmas, FTC, the FCC, and the FDA. They naturally assume the black and white scenario of against one, must be for the other. Complexities confuse them.

Know what I hate most about it? I recognize when I am being a stubborn ass about something and it pisses me off that I'm being irrational and stupid. I make myself angry at myself. And that's really dumb.

:/ FAIL.

I think we'd agree on most things, aside from some social things and business stuff (I am certainly not a laissez-faire capitalist!)

I feel the exact way about KT, the 9/11 Truth people and Scientology: STFU you're making the normals look bad! It seems like considering more than two viewpoints is waaaay too hard for the majority.

What I hate most is trying to make people understand the gray areas and watching them drool, get mad, or scoff. Then I get angry and FAIL. Bah.

The thing is, while I advocate laissez-faire capitalism, I don't actually think it can work in its pure form any more than communism can. I think we need the loyal opposition to exist for any government to work. When the loyal opposition dies you get dictatorships and oligarchies. Like you, I can agree with multiple POVs on one issue.

You have to weigh the Cost/Benefit ratio and go with that. Even if it's just your best guess.

Speaking of cost/benefit ratio... KT is killing me. An article appeared in the Chicago Sun Times today. This weekend is going to be a nightmare at work. The really ironic thing is, he's not nearly as bad as at least one of the others. She's just evil and there is no excuse for it. I don't work when her stuff is on, which is rare, thank goodness. At least the company that sponsors her limits her unique brand of crazy to once or twice a week.
