Some Random Stuff RE: TWH
Oct. 11th, 2005 11:28 pmI'm not going to do too much long, rambling posting about TWH, since I'm pretty much skimming the f-list myself, trying to catch up and get on solid ground before I have to go back to work tomorrow morning.
So, we have:
The Good
Meeting people is totally awesome. I can't even name them all, but I'll try. If I miss you, PLEASE do not take it personally! These are the new recruits. I think I touched base with most of the folks I already knew from before (
longtimegone,
eibbil_libbie, etc.).
thalia_chaunacy
annearchy
abigail89
didi75, only for a second! :(
sproutgirl, who is the only person in the universe who looks GORGEOUS in orange
truesalcove
mionealterego
notasecretagent
sunny1192
owlman
thetreacletart
junesrose
bookwench31
rebeccasama, with whom I had an awesome two+ hour conversation at the Salem Beer Works
fiendling, although that consisted of throwing my nametag into her face
kitsune13
katrionaa
unanon
zuzuanni
snapetoy, since I got her in the duelling club

I feel like I'm missing SO many people! I have to say, though, what was up with people putting their REAL NAMES on their badges?! How did anyone know who you were?!?!?!!? It was very disconcerting. I know I missed SO many people because it's very hard to approach someone when you have no clue who they are.
The panels and fanfic readings were great. Other than the Ron panel (which was great -
chickadilly, it was all Ron loff!), it was all Snape, all the time. I am definitely going to submit for a roundtable at Lumos, if
redblaze would like to help...*nudge*
I also got a *wonderful* plot bunny for a Draco/Ginny fic. I actually might even write it.
Salem is an awesome place. I hate touristy places with a passion, but Salem was great. Good mix of tourist and local.
Only being delayed 2 hours at Logan. Judging from the f-list, I had the best case scenario. Luckily, I can sleep anytime, anywhere.
The Bad
Being too shy to approach people. Some of it was the name badge thing, some of it was just not having cojones enough to walk up to them and say, "I love your stuff" or "thank you for starting Roughside". So, I missed
gmth,
amanuensis1 (who was probably mobbed wherever she went), and
hermorrine. No, I don't know why I'm such a wimp when it comes to that stuff. I missed A TON of people! *cries*
Getting lost in downtown Boston, then the ghetto (you know when you've passed both MLK and Malcolm X Blvds., you're not in Kansas anymore), then being really pissed that after calling the rental company, I was less than a mile away from where I should have been (before I drove back on 1A to Logan).
Being really, REALLY drunk, drinking more, and having to ride the bus back to the Ferncroft. :-& My stomach was three times its normal size on Monday morning. Yowza.
Missing other fandom people, who I *knew* would have had the best time... :'(
The Ugly
Hurting my knee, somehow. My right VMO feels all hurty, not sure why.
Driving off the freeway trying to make the exit so I could go to sleep. It was in the middle of construction; I ended up on the wrong side of the concrete barrier. I had to do a little urban offroading. Was much less funny last night, when I couldn't even tell if I was on pavement or grass.
Reading about all of the trouble everyone seemed to have getting home. Being delayed for a few hours is nothing to having your flight cancelled and having to sleep in the terminal. *hugs all of you*
Waking up at 9 this morning and not being able to go back to sleep. Think I'll be able to manage sleep quite quickly, now.
Night, all.

Date: 2005-10-12 09:36 am (UTC)It was great to meet so many people that I sort of knew. And don't feel bad about being shy. I'm sure you heard about the way I timidly approached Thalia. I'm such a nerd.
Love from,

Date: 2005-10-14 12:59 am (UTC)Typically I'm not so shy - I just like to approach people when they're not otherwise occupied, which it seemed like those folks were constantly busy (what am I saying? They WERE constantly busy with something-or-other) and I don't want to be a bother.
Before Lumos, I am DEFINITELY asking people to put up a picture of themselves, so I will recognize them.
