While out cleaning up and reseeding my yard, I found an abandoned baby bird.  I don't know where he came from; we couldn't find a nearby nest.  He was still in his shell, struggling to get free.  I put him in my glove and he wriggled and snuggled and finally pushed his shell off.

He has a little bruise on his head from his fall.  Right now he is out back in one of the gloves, alternately napping and wriggling in the warm sun.  Little guy probably won't last the afternoon.

I don't know why I'm just devastated by this teeny bird, but I am.  :(

Call your vet. They should have a number to a wildlife rescue organization and they can give you tips for taking care of him. But putting him outside is good, so that mom can hopefully find him.

If it helps, I'd be devastated too. A brand new little life is always sad to lose.

That is sad. His mom probably won't want him as she will be able to smell your scent on him. What you need is an incubator. I agree with the person who said to call the vet.

Oh, that's horrible. I seem to always be finding little baby birds or possums or something and trying to nurse them back to health. You can get baby bird food at the pet store if you want to try it. But at least he'll go happy if nothing else. All snuggly in the sun.
