ETA: This does not mean I do not want to be pinged, ever. I don't go invisible because I *want* to talk to people most of the time. Just don't start the conversation 0.0005 seconds after I log in with, "so, when are you going to be done with the next chapter of your fic?" :\

I am constantly invisible. Weird guys find my IM name and message me 24/7 and it's gotten to the point where I can't even be visible without getting harrassed by random people I don't know. Since I'm always invisible I never remember that people that I want to talk to can't see me so I miss out on talking to them. Bah...

For me it's not the people I *don't* know...it's the people I barely know.

When I logged on Y!M tonight, I was pinged by 7 people, and 5 of them started out, "so when is your next chapter coming out?" No "hello" or "how are you?" or anything. So rude. :-|

I don't mind people pinging me if they have something to talk about, or ask me a question and then hop off. I'd rather get an email though, really.

Man, that makes me glad nobody (well, hardly anybody) ever messages me anymore. :)

I don't totally agree with everything mentioned on the etiquette issue, but then again, I assume most of the pests are current or former AOLers.

Remember the days of "OMG lookit this page, and if you're a friend you'll send the URL back to me!" IM's? That's why I created this page...

... and I used to LOVE dicking around with the people that would IM me out of the blue 'cause I was a GIRL.

Asshat: "Age/Sex/Location please :)"
Me: "older youngish/guess/in a chair by my desk :)"
Asshat: "comon, tell me"

Me: "... uh, clothing. And yourself?"
Asshat: "haha. what kind of clothing"
Me: "hmm. Well, this top seems to be a 50/50 cotton/polyester blend, and my pants look to be cotton/polyester and ooh, 10% rayon!"
