Yech, I just got an email inviting me to my 10 year high school anniversary.  Looks like I have a little more than a month to completely overhaul myself for that.

Or, not.

I filled out alumni information on my high school website a few weeks ago, and looked at the alumni info for people in my grad year.  Most of the people I went to school with never left home.  They either got married straight out of high school or they went to college/uni for a bit, dropped out and got married.

And I thought I was kind of pathetic because I only managed to move an hour away.

Now I'm torn.  Do I go and spend the evening feeling totally superior, or do I blow the entire thing off and not know the height of my utter coolness?  What would Daria Morgendorfer do?

She would call up her friend Jane and hit the party, if only to stand in a corner and snark about Kevin's beer gut and Brittney's inability to speak of anything but her kids and how wonderful it is to be a stay-at-home-mom.

Yes, I think that's what I'll do.

Heh -- at least you have a high school reunion to GO to... getting expelled from a Xtian high school for "not having a proper Christian attitude" (read: I was a witch, oooh evil scary) when you're a junior kinda blows that chance...

...sucked, too, 'cause I was on prom committee. ;)

I tried to get expelled, trust me (this was well before the days of Columbine, and seeing a gun in the halls meant that some lucky kid was getting the day off to go hunting)! One of the reasons I want to go is that I know I intimidated a lot of people growing up - literally was the Daria of my high school, combat boots and all - and I want to know how they turned out. Right now, looks like I'm in the lead in the lifestyle success race.

Eh, isn't 'proper Christian attitude' just wearing your WWJD? bracelet while complaining about homeless people?

I dunno what proper Christian attitude is... at that school, there were more plastic people than Legoland...

... I do know proper Xtian attitude is NOT, when getting caught passing a note in homeroom and being asked to read the daily bible passage in front of the class, standing up and saying with a grin, "What, you don't think that borders on blasphemy?"

Or playing Solitaire with tarot cards during Bible class...

... or reading Dragonlance novels for book reports...

... or wearing all black, all the time, with only silver jewelry ("because only Satanists wear all silver")...

I could go on.... ^_^

Muah, I didn't know satanists only wore silver! Guess I missed that in my biblical read-through.

*snorts* Ah, be fruitful and multiply, ye bearers of contradictory tales and reactionary attitudes.

I just went to public school. I don't think Christian school would have survived me. :P

LOL! I love that icon. And the whole Daria thing. I'd like to say I was the Daria, but I was more that friendly somewhat strange girl flitting from group to group.

Why don't we have mascots?!

Oh wait. Luna.

*placated*

you know, I almost didn't go back for my reunion, but I did go and I wound up having the time of my life. Time dulls a lot of things, especially the bitchy stupid girls that were only concerned with boys and being popular. I found that most of them had married straight out of school, gained at least 20 pounds and had no life whatsoever other than reliving the past in their memories.

So, my advice would be to go and have fun. Look up your old friends and laugh at the stupid people. :)

Day-um...this year will be my 25th.

I went to my 10th. I don't regret going, but the people that I wanted to see weren't there.

Couple that with the fact that when I walked in, I didn't know who the hell anyone was...

Actually, Daria would be finishing up her PH.D. and getting ready to defend and not paying any attention at all to her mail when Jane would call her out of the blue and strong-arm her into going. Then she would stand in the corner snarking about Brittney and Kevvy.

;)
