quidditchgrrl: (Stephen can drive me anywhere)
Travelogue: NYC )

Travelogue: Colbert )

Still not ready to talk about Book 7 - I think I want to get through another reread listen before I put words to binary.

Hope you all had a great week and are enjoying yer weekends. :)
quidditchgrrl: (Oh SNAP!)
*wheeze*

TDS's take on "the enemy of our enemy is our friend"?

That, my friends, is comic irony.
quidditchgrrl: (Crazy Colbert laughter!)
Is it me or is Stephen a little frisky tonight? Or maybe I've been reading too much Jon/Stephen/Anderson/Olbermann fic. *evil grin*

And Sam Bee should definitely keep the side part - it makes her look 1000x better!

Nothing else to report.

Hope you all are doing well! :)
quidditchgrrl: (Become the media)
Gah. Somehow I knew I'd be up at 4:30am on Election Day. Pah.

But there is a bag of Hallyween candy (anniversary present!), so I am at least sugar-fueled.

The president's last minute desperation is amusing to me. I'm trying to be kind to those who are just now interpreting the truthiness and trying to escape the sucking moral vacuum that is the Republican party/neoconservative movement.

However, I'm worried that an overwhelming victory by the Dems will cause a free-for-all, like what happened with the 1994 Republican takeback of Congress. That seems to have turned out badly. [livejournal.com profile] photosinesis, you're killing me.

I took a "which candidate shares your values" quiz for governor, and, not surprisingly, none of the candidates was a clear winner. Still voting for Strickland. I feel vaguely dirty. :\

By the looks of things in the blogosphere, I missed awesome eps of TDS/TCR (due to aforementioned anniversary...celebrations). Pout.

I also want to watch Studio 60, but alas, I work Monday nights. Anyone willing to help me get started?

Sleep would be really fine right about now.
quidditchgrrl: (Jon is all a-squee)
Please to be skipping this if you're not interested in TDS/OSU.

I'm so impressed - they have really done their research. Loved the Chillicothe reference (even though they were standing in front of the Bob Evans on Olentangy River Road).

And John Oliver! I really am going to camp out on Wednesday for standby.

Excuse me, but WHY are they running Jack in the Box commericals? There's no Jack in the Box in Ohio! >:O It's just cruel.

Now for Colbert versus Manilow, my smutty Pride and Prejudice fanfic (Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife) and bed.

ETA: Did Stephen shave his hands again?!? *cries*
quidditchgrrl: (Jon is all a-squee)
I had so much FUUUUUUUNNNN today. Fun has been sorely lacking in my life of late. And FUUUUUUUUNNNN non-existent.

Today was the Thurber House honors for their Best American Humor 2005 award winner, the writers of America (the Book) - Jon Stewart, Ben Karlin, and David Javerbaum. I went to their reading, which was funny and excellent.

Jon is more off-the-cuff than I expected. Each of them read a piece from the book, and Jon did a segment with Professor Stanley K. Schultz, who contributed entries for the Teacher's Edition of the book.

I asked a couple of questions (for which Jon made fun of my verbosity): To Ben and DJ about The Colbert Report and whether they were surprised at how successful it has become (they are, and happy about it - Ben said Stephen was leaving TDS anyway???)

For Jon, I mentioned the article and asked him what he thought of his critics' opinions that his fan base gets all of their news from a fake news show. He said that he doesn't think that's true at all - if the people watching didn't follow any other news, the show would be like Charlie Brown's teacher talking - and that he (Jon) isn't a megalomaniac.

My faith in watching TDS has been affirmed - they really do GET IT. :) Ben Karlin is so cute, I love him.

Then, the OSU kick-off event )

I'm considering taking off work on Thursday to go and see Sacha Baron Cohen, who's going to be here as Borat. Or not.

Bah!

quidditchgrrl: (Oh please)
The biggest fluff piece masquerading as journalism in this town:

Jon Stewart: The Left's Answer to Bill O'Reilly

Yeah, me too. I'm thinking Dan Williamson is trying to pad his resume to get a better job with Fox News, or maybe The Dispatch.

The argument could be better made for Keith Olbermann, or even Stephen Colbert (how many pundits can get Wikipedia tied in knots, or instigate vote-running at a foreign website?). Jon doesn't go on many tirades (unless Bob Novak is making noise), and he certainly doesn't tell people to call/protest/boycott anything.

There isn't even insight in this article. It's just right for O'Reilly's ilk, a good header and very little substance.

Does anyone use The Daily Show as their only source for news? I don't know anyone who does. Maybe I'm just naive about that and there are millions of people who are laughing at most of the jokes without any knowledge of why they're funny. :-|
quidditchgrrl: (Jon is all a-squee)
It's the little things, I tells ya. Lost was actually...not bad! I might be able to get into the whole Locke/Eko thing, minus the WTFPOLARBEAR.

And - Stephen has regrown the hair on his hands! Manly hands, very nice. I can excuse the LOTR obsession for that. ;)

Plus, that wry smile last night after they showed his scruffy college pic - *melty*

OH OH OH - one of my co-workers (the Lothario I mentioned in my last post) has promised me a ticket for a second Daily Show/Jon Stewart event that is happening on the night of the reading! *does crazy dance of joy* That just rules.

This also rules - the septemberfund.org's commercial.

I feel much better today than I did yesterday. Keith Olbermann eases the pain. I'm sure he'll be one of the first to go.

My fondest wish: headline for January 21, 2009: "Former President Bush II Arrested for Crimes Against Humanity, Cheney Already In Custody". A girl can dream, can't she?
quidditchgrrl: (Just a manila envelope)
1. Is John Oliver not the cutest thing ever? He's my favorite new TDS correspondent. It must be the overlong incisors. I really don't like Jason Jones.

2. I've been overdoing it on the Jon/Stephen RPS lately. Must.stop.lustingreading. Maybe should switch to Paul/Stephen for a while, cut back a little.

3. Anybody else LibraryThing? [livejournal.com profile] notasecretagent and I have accounts. Anyone? Bueller?

4. I had a decent day at work! It's amazing how much I can avoid getting done when I don't have time to do it put my mind to it. :P

5. My new Saturday night date is fark.com. Makes me feel good that most things can be tagged "scary", "sick", "dumbass", "spiffy", "asinine" or "Florida". SCARY: Coke rots your bones. *sips Diet Pepsi* >.>

6. Made it to disk #4 of The Greatest Story Ever Sold. Now there isn't as much commentary as just enumerating the misinformation and spin of linking 9/11 to Iraq is taking an enormous amount of air.

7. Quote of the day: "If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." -James Madison. McCarthy, eat your heart out.
quidditchgrrl: (Ed loves the homometer)

Sometimes I get the feeling that Fan Service Monday is just an excuse for Jon and Stephen to pretend that they're not really getting it on.

*snerk*

quidditchgrrl: (Oh Really? Jon is all like whatever!)
It's been very interesting watching The Daily Show this week. Jon's gone from amused irony to muted outrage.

Ta ta, Senator McCain, don't let the door hit your waffling ass on the way out.

Even crazier is the strange feelings I've had whenever I see Jon or Stephen now - once I started reading this fic, I'm seeing a whole new...dynamic.

I'm going directly to hell for just thinking what I'm thinking.

And also, they have Guys Gone Wild now, and for a split-second, I thought, "could I possibly hide something like that from Honeybunch?" *sigh* *hangs head* Probably not.

I'm not picking a darned color for feast at Lumos. Whatever.

Gah, I can't even manage to procrastinate properly. Must pack, stay sane.

*zooms away*
quidditchgrrl: (Crazy Colbert laughter!)
Meh. Randomosity.

1. I might get to sleep in tomorrow! We're going into month 4 of sharing my car, and god-DAMN is it inconvenient. The car is still not fixed yet, who knows why (as Honeybunch ponied up $750 to buy a transmission, and both tranny and car are with the mechanic). But Honeybunch will be working in the office tomorrow, so I might drop him off at work, leaving me free to be home more than 3 hours in a day. \o/

2. Ooh, they just showed headshots of Ahmadnejad and Dubya side-by-side on TDS, and they look alike! Creeeeepy. Squinty, shifty eyes on both of them.

3. TMI Girly Stuff. )

4. Lost. Well. All I can say is that I hope they have their plot together. Eko is awesome.

5. Back in Black! W00t! I <3 Lewis. And Billy Connolly! I love The Daily Show!

6. Mount of Olives chai tea makes the best ice tea ever. :-9

7. I've gained 6 pounds. :O Not cool. Must bike 20 miles every weekend, work out 3x/week and quit eating! Bought some Dexatrim Max today. It doesn't work. :(

8. I want to hug the whole world. *hug*

9. I'm finding it very hard to get off the PC at 11pm and watch TDS and TCR on the couch. Last night was torture - so much with the gay! I was dying to cruise the threads, but resisted. Lo, I am Xena!

10. When A Stranger Calls = the lamest movie ever. Gah.

11. Scottish accent = teh sex. Jon agrees. :>
quidditchgrrl: (Stephen Goes to Washington)
I wanted to go to bed early last night. I've been too worried and too amped to sleep. *sigh*

I did manage to tear myself away from the computer and sit on the couch to watch TDS/TCR, because I felt like I needed to see them giggling. I wasn't disappointed!

Is it just me, or was last night the first time Stephen has ever kissed a woman on-screen?! Still, hot. (That wasn't his wife, right? Lucky, lucky girl.)

But now, I am le tired. And I can't have a nap.

Writing yet another re-training document for an employee who is about as useful as overcooked spaghetti. The most frustrating part? That *I* did this part of his training, but he has completely forgotten everything he's learned in the last two months. It's like he has short-term memory loss; every day is like his first day on the job. But we can't just let him go, oh no! We have to retrain him for the 6483651206th time. *headdesk*
quidditchgrrl: (Shut Up All of You!)
There is still much talk about Stephen's performance at the WHCD. The general consensus is that the man has balls.

I definitely hold last night's speech up as one of the best TV news moments ever. Maybe even the best, just for the verbal bitch slapping the president received. Pwned like the pansy-ass he is (the president, not Stephen).

There was interesting conversation during the AIM chat about RPF/RPS. It's not something I've ever been able to get into; I don't know why. Even though it's not real, it taps into the only part of my brain that says, "ew! That's not right!" I took a gander over at [livejournal.com profile] tds_rps, but didn't see a whole lot.

I kind of think Ed/Sam would be cute. Or Demetri/Nate.

IS there a TDS fic archive?

I have to get dinner done before 7 so I can settle down to watch 60 Minutes. It's been a nice weekend for Stephen-mania. Not so good for marital relations. (Honeybunch gets irrationally jealous when I squee too much over any celebrity. He's weird.)

Took my first bike ride of the year today. Remembered that I promised myself that I would buy a new seat. Owwie, butt blisters. :( No long rides until I have a new seat, or callouses on my upper thighs. *waddles*
quidditchgrrl: (Heh Heh. Jon's mocking you AGAIN.)
Ah, the soothing beat of randomness:

Canned pink grapefruit is yummy, especially when eaten with chopsticks.

Three-day-old vegetable fried rice is decidedly not.

I am glad to see Sam Bee back on TDS. She takes eye-rolling to new heights of silliness.

Wow. The Sentinel is going to rock. Kiefer! <3

Ooh-hoo-hoo! Don't screw with Thomas Dolby!

For the record, I think Moses is a cute name. As is Apple. Just so that's on the record. In case you were wondering where I stand on the issue.

Also, how hard is it to call upstairs and ask someone the proper answer to a question? Because when the library gives you incorrect information, we all look like asshats. *sporks*

I am the only person in the entire world who does not give a flying poo about the Arctic Monkeys. Don't know, don't care. Killers wannabes

Natasha Bedingfield, go home to England, for all our sakes. You're no Robbie Williams.

'Night, all.
quidditchgrrl: (It's all over save the giggling)
[livejournal.com profile] nmalfoy is an evil, evil woman.

Who knew that an innocent question could cause me to think really, really nasty thoughts about Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

Stephen making filthy hand gestures and grabbing his crotch is SO NOT HELPING.

Having Paul on the show SO NOT HELPING STEPHEN. Nutz cola. *combusts*

:D
quidditchgrrl: (It's all over save the giggling)
Happiness is...

Taking an XXL dress (from Target, no less) into the dressing room, then changing it for XL, then again for L before it fits.

The spontaneous laughter that comes from simply by watching someone else experience joy.

Finding a $44 skirt on sale for $9.99 - and it fits.

New Episode of TDS, post-Oscars.

A new [livejournal.com profile] stephen_paul community.

Irony is...

Your boss possibly applying for a job which supervises the job YOU'RE applying for. At least we're a good team already. 8-|
quidditchgrrl: (I could take him)
I've finally seen the Lost pilot...a couple of days before I receive season 1 from Amazon. :P

Also figured out how my del.icio.us account works - thanks [livejournal.com profile] authenticpoppy!

Rainbow annual report finished and signed off. Holy frijoles, if I had this much trouble getting information entered in the Supreme site, I can't imagine how the older MAs are managing. Thank goodness it's done, though! GOOD NEWS - Grand Assembly sessions will be held at the Kenyon Athletic Center. Yay!

Got roped into giving yet another series of presentations at work - this time an overview of Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. *headdesk* However, trading a few hours of preparation for the agonizing hours of the disciplinary process seems a good thing. I wish we could get one of our other staff to jump into these things. It's not that hard!

OMG. Matthew Fox is on TDS. GUH. And he's wearing a gold medallion. Gold medallions + man dickey = teh sex. This is my desktop background at work. Hubba, hubba.

Now returning you to your Olympics/Colbert Report/regularly scheduled lives.
quidditchgrrl: (O.o)
Lots of things going on with my friends list today!

Happy dance of joy for:

Major hugs and loff to:
[livejournal.com profile] courtney_beth, who is having much stress
[livejournal.com profile] singtoangels, who needs the gods of car karma to shine down on her
[livejournal.com profile] nsmom
[livejournal.com profile] megome, who's lost a friend
[livejournal.com profile] heidi8, hella busy for the next few weeks!

Virtual chicken soup & NyQuil to:
[livejournal.com profile] madlori
[livejournal.com profile] claireyfairy1
[livejournal.com profile] likebunnies, though a shot of Imitrex might work better
[livejournal.com profile] redblaze

Why, oh why no new Daily Show or Colbert Report? :-(( I am missing 3/4 of my TV watching!

So, how are YOU doing?
quidditchgrrl: (So truthy!)
Aw, Rob Corddry is so cute hosting The Daily Show! :D

The Random Question Meme! )

How can you not love a meme that builds in an LJ cut?

Is it just me or do books villifying Conservatives or Liberals suck? I try to read these stupid things only to be pissed off and turned off. I just got done with Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy.

I think most people understand these concepts:
--If you make over $100K a year, you own stock
--If you make over that, you are actively looking for ways to avoid paying taxes
--Rich Americans are hypocrites as a general rule

No "profile" in this book was surprising. Michael Moore underpays his staff? Ralph Nader has a multi-million dollar home? Noam Chomsky was paid by the DoD?

*yawn*

No Moby? How about Jon Stewart? Couldn't find good dirt on Howard Dean? Instead, we get recycled trash talk about Barbra Streisand and Hillary Clinton. How 1998.
