The biggest fluff piece masquerading as journalism in this town:

Jon Stewart: The Left's Answer to Bill O'Reilly

Yeah, me too. I'm thinking Dan Williamson is trying to pad his resume to get a better job with Fox News, or maybe The Dispatch.

The argument could be better made for Keith Olbermann, or even Stephen Colbert (how many pundits can get Wikipedia tied in knots, or instigate vote-running at a foreign website?). Jon doesn't go on many tirades (unless Bob Novak is making noise), and he certainly doesn't tell people to call/protest/boycott anything.

There isn't even insight in this article. It's just right for O'Reilly's ilk, a good header and very little substance.

Does anyone use The Daily Show as their only source for news? I don't know anyone who does. Maybe I'm just naive about that and there are millions of people who are laughing at most of the jokes without any knowledge of why they're funny. :-|

TDS is my primary source of news. Of course, that's mostly because they've got better reporting than any actual news source out there these days--and that saddens me. At the same time, it's not my only source--I also use Digg, the Beeb, and a fistful of blogs to stay informed as well.

It's not my only source for news (I typically watch CNN's Robin & Company in the mornings and CNN or MSNBC when I'm stuck in the house cleaning or something), but it's definitely where I go to hear someone talk about it. Jon's not without his bias, but he's fucking funny and I happen to agree with him. :))

If TDS mentions something I haven't heard about, I'll do more research on it, so often I get my intro to a news item through them. Otherwise, if I know of something major, I watch TDS to see how they'll look at it. So I suppose I don't use it as my ONLY news source, but rather my favourite news filter. :)

This is what I was going to reply and say as well. Exact same thing. Generally when we watch TDS, though, we're already aware of anything they might be "covering" as we are both RSS junkies.

Also, I don't think of TDS as news, but as editorial (which, sadly is what most outlets calling themselves "news" are anyway. But I digress).

Yeah, me too. I'm thinking Dan Williamson is trying to pad his resume to get a better job with Fox News, or maybe The Dispatch.

Or as White House Press Secretary.

I'm teaching satire to my advanced 12th graders and I think you'll be happy to know that I use The Daily Show as one of my sources for examples...I tape and play some of Jon's monologues. I used the ep that was done last week about North Korea. My kids were pissing themselves they were laughing so hard!

I'm using Shrek and The Simpsons in class too. And we are also reading The Princess Bride.

My 2nd period is going to know how to think for themselves if it's the last thing I do! And I'm using comedy as the vessel of knowledge!

God...I'm having so much fun in that class...
