quidditchgrrl: (minttea - bother)

Woe. Am not feeling well.at.all. Tried to sleep in the waterbed last night - bad move. Slept about an hour and woke up horrendously ill. Shakes and nausea, the whole bit. Couldn't sleep the rest of the night, hrrumph.

I want to be well, dammit, now.

Peeled off my surgi-tape a little early, but it was itching me so badly I thought I might go crazy. The frozen vegetables helped a little, but it was those little strips that were killing me, so off they went.

Today was actually pretty productive, though. Went to the gym and walked on the treadmill for 45 minutes (but having to hold my stomach while doing it was a little embarrassing) and have made progress on the wedding front. I should hear back from the officiant by tomorrow, and have my deejay quotes in by mid-week. Go me!

Oh, get this. My sister talked to my aunt (I come from a long line of white-trash nutjobs, fyi) on the phone. My aunt has declared that my tumor was the remnants of my twin! Twins run on the maternal side of my family, but, um, no. No, not my twin. Just some cells. My aunt is not to be put down though, and I have a feeling that I'll be spending an hour on the phone with her and her nutjob theory. *sigh* I so do not have the energy for that.

I totally missed the DNC coverage tonight. Caught some Larry King Live and watched Mo Rocca give his report. I <3 dorks.

Oh, oh, oh - anyone reading a Unitarian Universalist? I went to the official site and didn't get a good sense of what the group was really about. What I saw, I liked, but what are the services like, for example? Just wondering.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and take a darvocet to try to get some sleep.

'Night all.

I'm sorry, I couldn't help snorting my Kool-Aid while reading what your aunt said. :)

I'm not Unitarian, but we were married by one... he was really nice, and had a huge binder full of all kinds of wedding ceremonies and the like, and he helped us piece together a beautiful and meaningful one. (kind of Masonic symbolic, in a way...)

I, too, liked what I saw from the website, but I just didn't know. I've thought about going to a service, but I'm afraid the only thing I do religiously on Sundays is sleep in till noon. ;)

Yucky about the tape, but if it itched... could you be allergic to adhesives? I am... I found out the hard way (after getting splashed with boiling water and getting second-degree burns on my left breast)... took over a year for the tape scars to fade.

Nah, it's not ElJay, it's me finally responding to two-month-old comments!

I've been interested in UU for a bit, since I learned they aren't a Christian church. I offically gave up Christianity (as in, I quit wondering why I didn't believe any of it) almost 4 years ago.

The problem is I don't want to tithe. So trite, it's true. I believe in work, not payout, I guess. *shrug* And that's something that IS universal about Universal Unitarianism.

Ooh, and adhesive allergy sounds awful. I think my trouble was more with the fibers in the tape itself irritating my skin. Scars from tape? Owcchy. :(

HAd to giggle mightily about your comment anyone knowing what Unitarians are about. I don't think they do. Their theology is wishy-washy at best. They want to be everything and end up being nothing, but don't mind me. I'm sort of a theology wonk.

UU services can range from a traditional, watered-down Christian to New Agey sort-of-out-there in the ozone, Pagan type service. You just never know what they're going to do. Go talk to your local UU minister and see what they can offer.

Your aunt! *rolls eyes* I have the same types in my family (strangely, they're from Ohio). I do an awful lot of eye rolling at family gatherings.

Glad to hear you're recovering well.

Hope you are feeling all right!

*giggles hard at PBG's Aunt*

*looks around for own relatives* Phew. None in sight.

The Unitarians are pretty cool. They are very community driven, so each church will be different. You can get a sense of what they are all about from the home page, but not completely. You really have to contact your local organization.

Some are very Christian in nature. IIRC there was a split in the Unitarian organization in the last few years when some Christians wanted to begin acknowledging the monotheistic concept of god, while others wanted to keep services neutral for everyone. They used the reason that it was a 'ceremonmial god'. Being the UU, there were enough agnostics and atheists in addition to displaced Pagans, Buddhists, Hindus, etc. in the church that objected. Finally, the Christians picked up their marbles and started another branch. There is always enough of them that they can do that.

So, I would check the local branch. The branch where I live is run by an agnostic and we have loads of displaced Hindus, Buddhists, and until recently, Islamists.

Funny story - There is now a mosque in town and *some* of the more close-minded Christians are all bent out of shape because it has tax exempt status. *eye roll*

Sounds like you're making good progress if yer walking for a good portion of an hour. My problem after surgery was the extreme loss of blood so I had to be on iron pills and when I didn't have them I was freakin' tired beyond all hell. How are you on that front, has having all of that made you anemic at all?

Hehe, I love your aunt I decided. I can't wait to be someone's crazy aunt Manda trying to convince them that I lost my eye in a pirate knife fight. You know... I could have been your twin... evil or good, which would it have made you? Something to think about...

On a side note, http://www.fictionalbricabrac.com/fanfiction.html, I posted your story there - all done! My friend Karen took a read of it and emailed me after I told her I wrote it for you saying - She's PBG?? I read her SMUT, she's awesome! Thought you'd get a kick out of that...

Nah, it's not LJ acting up, I'm just finally getting to some of my older entries!

It does scare me sometimes how many people read my stuff, truly. From the number of comments, there must be like a 50:1 ratio of people who read to people who review. Glad they seem to like it though! :)

Oh, and I am definitely the good twin. Yes. :>
