Jun. 10th, 2004 12:21 amHoneybunch said something very wise last night regarding the entire
ladyanabelle mess.
I've been keeping my mouth firmly shut about it, since he gets upset when I spend too much time playing on the 'net now or if I get upset at fandom goings on (did you know myeloblastomas are exacerbated by stress *snort*). Yeah, I know, I shouldn't let it get to me, but sometimes it does.
I'm explaining this to him, and comparing the HP fandom to SW or LOTR or Star Trek, who have more than their fair share of nutters. I look upon the HP fandom as a more 'mainstream' fandom - a lot of people here have kids, spouses, and lead fairly 'normal' lives. Not many Comic Book Guys, if you catch my drift. And the HP fandom is pretty young in comparison.
"Well, you need to start paying more attention to people," says Honeybunch.
"Oh yeah, but..." I go into my 'people in this fandom are expected to be somewhat genuine' speech.
"But it's slowly developing the same way those other fandoms did, I'm sure. More people, more websites, more anonymity to be whoever you want."
And damn it, he's right. And here I am hoping this would be a one-off. It wasn't. It won't be. *chants Constant Vigilance!*
Oh, and myeloblastoma? That's what I have - smooth muscle tumor - growing in my abdomen at the moment. They are 99% sure it's not cancerous
When my cousin was 32, she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. The surgery seemed pretty routine; they thought there was a benign tumor pressing on the pancreas. Once they got in there, however, they found an enormous tumor wrapped throughout her abdomen. What was a two-hour operation turned into fourteen. Had the surgeon not met her two small children before the procedure, he would have sewn her back up and given condolences to the family. so yeah, we'll wait and see. I see the surgeon on Monday and maybe, just maybe, I can be in for surgery before heading to Grand Assembly with my girls on July 8. I'm not holding my breath though. But hooray for progress anyway.
Am taking the girls to see PoA on Friday :> I so only asked them, and they all wanted to go! *grins* Went to the IMAX showing on Monday with
ishie and her friend Maryann. Much fangirliness was had, IMAX v. awesome. I have figured out that I lust (and I'm using the term very loosely here) for Dan only when he's Harry. This is normal and good, yes? Glasses off = no good. Glasses on = oh yeah. < /random thought of the day>

Date: 2004-06-10 07:41 am (UTC)There is one thing that's been bandied about that's disturbed me quite a bit. That having Multiple Sockies = A Bad Thing. You know that I have multiple sockies and even within those sockies, I am true to my personality as an individual. If I bash you with one personality, I will bash you with the others. If I embrace you with one, the other will also. You know the real me, which isn't unusual for my online self any more than are the sockies.
Not all sockies are meant to hide horrible things. Some are just for fun - Some are meant to branch out to new things. I do it a a dividing line sometimes - As an indicator that one part of my online life has died and a new one has begun.
Just something to consider. I know that's not what was done in the 'Annie' case and I don't know much about it. I think that there will be arseholes anywhere and everywhere the Internet leaves an opening for them.
Don't forget that HP is the first LARGE fandom to spring up on the Internet. It is going to be interesting to see how it morphs around and develops over time - Particularly after Book Seven comes out. Do I think I will be in it? Yep. I got a damn tattoo of a Snitch on my ankle. You bet I will. I'm gonna be 70 and in the fandom.

YESYESYES! GLASSES ON = GOODNESS! GLASSES OFF = EW! Okay, not completely, but yeah! Good divider there! Good lustline!
You didn't have anymore thoughts about the movie? I'm anxious to hear what else you thought. Hermione-Sue? Dead Ferrets everywhere? Joint Christmas Presents?
I need more PBG opining on this subject.
Nice way to scare yerself, btw. *looks balefully at PBG* *sniff* I'll be thinking POSITIVE thoughts on Monday. Because things will turn out fine. They will, you know. Lady Luck, Karma, it's all in your favor you know. Especially the Karma part.

PoA - I think one more viewing tomorrow night - and I'll be able to give a coherent review. So far, I love it, dead ferrets and all. :)

Date: 2004-06-10 08:50 am (UTC)You know, I feel the exact same way, and I think it's because glasses on = Harry who is fictional, a fantasy, not really a young 14 year old that a responsible adult like myself should be perving over. I'm in love with Harry! Glasses off= Dan who is a great kid, cute, and a pleasure to watch and listen to. I don't swoon and go pervy when I see him on the red carpet. I'm not in love with Dan.
Same thing with Rupert. Cute kid, but I'm in love with Ron!
Good news on the benign tumour. Think positive. It's very powerful.

Date: 2004-06-10 11:47 am (UTC)Radcliffe is a real 14/15-year-old. Ew. No perv material. That's sick. He can't play Quidditch or become invisible. He attends a real school where he has real friends. He's a kid.
Same with Grint.
In a lot of ways I wish the movies had never come out. I wouldn't feel the need to defend against my perviness.

Date: 2004-06-10 07:30 pm (UTC)Harry has a lot of w00biness that is very appealing...and I'll leave it at that lest the pervy thought police raid the Bad Place.
