Our house is a very fine house

Can I just say that I've wanted this house since I was a little kid? We drove past it all the time on the way to Columbus, and it's looking sadder and sadder every time I see it (the gutter and some of the fascia has detatched from the front of the house now).
And the owners won't sell it. :-(

Date: 2004-03-26 06:06 am (UTC)I think everyone knows of a house like this while growing up. Mine was an old victorian house in the middle of town that was in shambles. My friend and I went in it one afternoon and it saddened me with the shape it was in. The one thing I remember was that there were two flights of stairs one leading to the second floor and from the second floor to the attic and once in the attic there was a tiny staircase that led to rooftop were there was a small balcony of some sort. I was too chicken to climb it. LOL
Finally we heard that some people had bought it and were going to have it torn down and rebuilt in a town about 50 miles away. I never saw it after it was moved, but I like to think it is still standing and is once again beautiful.
Anyway...sorry for the ramble. But thanks for the walk down memory lane. :o)

Sad...
Date: 2004-03-26 08:19 pm (UTC)Where I live, I see too often the demise of such houses. It's very depressing. Owners sell them for big bucks to builders who knock them down and put up all that disposable shit.
A little over 10 years ago, when we were looking fpr a house, we fell in love with a house on Browneye's block. It was a beautiful Victorian on a huge plot of land. The owner was restoring it.
We ended up buying a house a few blocks away.
About a year ago, this guy put the house up for sale and sold to builders. The house was 75% restored and it took the demolition crew 3 days to know it down!
We both cried.
