You know what's really funny (well, not funny, but you know, interesting) in all of this wank about [livejournal.com profile] lissinthecity, the f-word, and its meaning?

Liss is a true romantic. She likes a good romance. She believes in the concept of soul mates.

Most - if not all - of her stories revolve around unconditional love. The majority have enough fluff to result in cavities.

Why should this one be any different? Love and lust are not mutually exclusive. Who's to say Harry didn't ask Ginny to move in with him the next morning? Or that he didn't, later on, treat her like she was made of silk and blown glass? Or that she ever wanted to be treated like a fragile flower?

I truly think that were it not for the name of the author at the top of this fic, nothing would ever have been said. It's one thing to leave a review for some unknown author who's writing their first fic. But it's something else altogether to align against a well-known person in the fandom, one whom you don't particularly know aside from the name.

Unimaginative, I tell you. Thoughtless and uninspired. Tired.

I haven't known Liss for as long as you have but she's a real sweetie and has been lovely to me since we've met. I personally thought her fic was great. :-)

Haven't read the fic, but I don't honestly see what the problem with Ginny saying "F*** me" is. If one person doesn't like the word choice that's his/her personal preference. Why does one opinion dictate what is OOC for the Ginny, someone who we know so little about in the books anyway? ~T

Actually, we know a lot more about her, post-OotP.

She actually curses in Book 5!

And JKR showed that Ginny is much more than a shrinking violet. She has edge.

I swear I'm going to write a guide to the neo-fandom for you all, really I am.

That's true, she does swear in Book 5, doesn't she? It's not hard to see that that could transfer to the bedroom.

Good luck on writing your guide. ;! ~T

That should be fun. A real project, actually. Can I help? *eg* I promise to bring cookies and stay in the dungeon.

Ah, the beauty of smut. Love and lust are not mutually exclusive. In fact, the best lifelong partnerships are built with both.

That's what I usually tried to write, before I gave up on the whole smut thing, and I do keep it as an ideal in the fics I read as well as something I might like to have someday.

While I won't use the word in question myself (it violates my character so badly to say it that I can't imagine to impose such a character upon another), I will admit that it has its legitamate uses, when it's other writers using it.

So this is what you've been upset about. *fumes* I am now upset with you. It hurt my feelings that she was targeted like that, and I don't even know Liss. *shakes head in bemusement* I will admit, though, that I probably would never have read this fic if there hadn't been a fuss. I'm not much of an H/G fan. I'm glad I did, though, as it was hot-t-t.

How disappointing that someone at CM would cause such an personally targeted uproar.

Actually, this is just the cherry on top of my fandom spooge sundae.

I'm highly amused that both sides (not meaning CM people or Liss) are wanking as hard as they can.

Fandom tennis! :D

I haven't read Liss's story yet, but I always make it a point to read her work as much as I can. I love what she does with the characters, and I know she works damn hard at it too. She's the last person I would ever accuse of writing smut for smuts sake. It's not her style.

That said, I don't think it's too unreasonable to imagine Ginny with a foul mouth. She certainly is strong willed and outspoken, and when you grow up with six brothers, it's almost a given that she's heard everything.

I truly think that were it not for the name of the author at the top of this fic, nothing would ever have been said.

Well, here's the flip side. If any other person had left that review would it have generated this much wank?

Just an observation, love. I'm as tired as you are.

Read the fic - It's really good. I think it's very in character for a someday Ginny. I can see her playing games.

It's funny, I had a harder time with *Harry* in the story than I did with Ginny. But, it wasn't anything I couldn't suspend my disbelief for - It was well written.

Well, here's the flip side. If any other person had left that review would it have generated this much wank?

Or left comments at the poll - skimming right over similiar comments made by others. Or done a poll at all. Or responded to the comments. And so on.

When one wanks, one does not wank alone, Grasshopper.

It was just too quiet, wasn't it?

I read it before I went to bed last night, and I loved it!

Ginny seems to take after the twins, with her attitude in OotP. I didn't think that was out of character for her at all. She's strong, sexy and confident. I love seeing that played up in a fic!

As for the wank? Meh. Didn't read it. The two people involved seemed to have resolved this between them. I'll leave it at that.

Yes, yes YES! That's what I thought too! George and Fred have a seriously twisted edge to them, don't they? I think Ginny is probably more twisted than they are in some ways.

As for the wank - Is it ever resolved? *gag* I stopped reading it. It got redundant.

There is one good thing about this. Maybe there are some people who don't like the H/G pairing will read the fic and see the possibility. The pairing can be a lot of fun to write and read. They've been done in a lot of interesting ways by a lot of different and talented writers. I'd love to see the fandom base grow.

Harry and post-OotP-Ginny could be a diverse and interesting pairing in the fandom with a broad writing base. It's something I would love to see happen.

I just wanted to say that I agree with what you have said. I am a big H/G fan, as it's my preferred het pairing, and I loved Liss's story. I admired her efforts to write about a pairing that she doesn't like to challenge herself. Not many, and certainly not those who have complained, would do the same.

Donna,

I agree with you. Lissanne is not only one of the best writers in the fandom, she is one of its most romantic.

To think that an attempt to challenge herself and write a pairing that does not appeal to her garners this kind of reaction.

It truly boggles my mind

The story was wonderful, well written, fun and full of wonderful words - all of them and great characterizations. Somehow, it seems that this fact has gotten lost in a sea of small thought.

Yes, the story itself is wonderfully written. It takes a *lot* for me to get into a H/G story to the point where I consider their interaction plausible and realistic.

Before I uploaded the story, Liss and I chatted about the semantics of a particular word. Obviously the most controversial word was missed. :)

Maybe what Liss' detractors disliked wasn't the characterization, but the fact that somewho who professed to not liking H/G could do such a good job writing them together?

*shakes head*

I flatly refuse to take sides in this because I don't know the people or histories involved (and don't care to), but I have to say that I see this happening on both sides of the aisle. It's been like watching a birthday party for 3-year-olds.

*sigh* Now I remember why I left my last fandom.

Ah well, I've resolved to stay out of the fray, much as it goes against my head-knocking nature, and return to my quiet little corner of the fandom...

As an unknown author I wrote a story which let Harry and Ginny have lots of imaginative and enjoyable extra-marital (shock, horror) sex that didn't involve either of them keeping their socks on! I had previously, of course, made the fatal mistake of questioning the moral rectitude of teen marriage/pregnancy fluff. Like sheep the GT crowd elieved what they were told by the Hags oops sorry Queens that I was an evil genius (ie involved with FA) and consequently flamed me nastily. Whether you are well known, have loads of prominent friends or not, it is easily just a hurtful and silly to be at the centre of the kind of wank. It was a good story and good for Liss for being dignified and not rising to the bait, the only way to deal with this is to ignore it and it will die down.
