You know what's really funny (well, not funny, but you know, interesting) in all of this wank about
lissinthecity, the f-word, and its meaning?
Liss is a true romantic. She likes a good romance. She believes in the concept of soul mates.
Most - if not all - of her stories revolve around unconditional love. The majority have enough fluff to result in cavities.
Why should this one be any different? Love and lust are not mutually exclusive. Who's to say Harry didn't ask Ginny to move in with him the next morning? Or that he didn't, later on, treat her like she was made of silk and blown glass? Or that she ever wanted to be treated like a fragile flower?
I truly think that were it not for the name of the author at the top of this fic, nothing would ever have been said. It's one thing to leave a review for some unknown author who's writing their first fic. But it's something else altogether to align against a well-known person in the fandom, one whom you don't particularly know aside from the name.
Unimaginative, I tell you. Thoughtless and uninspired. Tired.

And JKR showed that Ginny is much more than a shrinking violet. She has edge.
I swear I'm going to write a guide to the neo-fandom for you all, really I am.

Date: 2004-03-01 09:31 pm (UTC)That's what I usually tried to write, before I gave up on the whole smut thing, and I do keep it as an ideal in the fics I read as well as something I might like to have someday.
While I won't use the word in question myself (it violates my character so badly to say it that I can't imagine to impose such a character upon another), I will admit that it has its legitamate uses, when it's other writers using it.

Date: 2004-03-01 09:53 pm (UTC)How disappointing that someone at CM would cause such an personally targeted uproar.

Date: 2004-03-02 06:04 pm (UTC)I'm highly amused that both sides (not meaning CM people or Liss) are wanking as hard as they can.
Fandom tennis! :D

Date: 2004-03-01 10:10 pm (UTC)That said, I don't think it's too unreasonable to imagine Ginny with a foul mouth. She certainly is strong willed and outspoken, and when you grow up with six brothers, it's almost a given that she's heard everything.
I truly think that were it not for the name of the author at the top of this fic, nothing would ever have been said.
Well, here's the flip side. If any other person had left that review would it have generated this much wank?
Just an observation, love. I'm as tired as you are.

Date: 2004-03-02 03:45 pm (UTC)It's funny, I had a harder time with *Harry* in the story than I did with Ginny. But, it wasn't anything I couldn't suspend my disbelief for - It was well written.
Well, here's the flip side. If any other person had left that review would it have generated this much wank?
Or left comments at the poll - skimming right over similiar comments made by others. Or done a poll at all. Or responded to the comments. And so on.
When one wanks, one does not wank alone, Grasshopper.
It was just too quiet, wasn't it?

Date: 2004-03-02 09:29 pm (UTC)Ginny seems to take after the twins, with her attitude in OotP. I didn't think that was out of character for her at all. She's strong, sexy and confident. I love seeing that played up in a fic!
As for the wank? Meh. Didn't read it. The two people involved seemed to have resolved this between them. I'll leave it at that.

Date: 2004-03-03 04:22 am (UTC)Yes, yes YES! That's what I thought too! George and Fred have a seriously twisted edge to them, don't they? I think Ginny is probably more twisted than they are in some ways.
As for the wank - Is it ever resolved? *gag* I stopped reading it. It got redundant.
There is one good thing about this. Maybe there are some people who don't like the H/G pairing will read the fic and see the possibility. The pairing can be a lot of fun to write and read. They've been done in a lot of interesting ways by a lot of different and talented writers. I'd love to see the fandom base grow.
Harry and post-OotP-Ginny could be a diverse and interesting pairing in the fandom with a broad writing base. It's something I would love to see happen.

Date: 2004-03-02 05:28 am (UTC)I agree with you. Lissanne is not only one of the best writers in the fandom, she is one of its most romantic.
To think that an attempt to challenge herself and write a pairing that does not appeal to her garners this kind of reaction.
It truly boggles my mind
The story was wonderful, well written, fun and full of wonderful words - all of them and great characterizations. Somehow, it seems that this fact has gotten lost in a sea of small thought.

Date: 2004-03-02 06:13 pm (UTC)Before I uploaded the story, Liss and I chatted about the semantics of a particular word. Obviously the most controversial word was missed. :)
Maybe what Liss' detractors disliked wasn't the characterization, but the fact that somewho who professed to not liking H/G could do such a good job writing them together?
*shakes head*

Date: 2004-03-02 08:06 am (UTC)I flatly refuse to take sides in this because I don't know the people or histories involved (and don't care to), but I have to say that I see this happening on both sides of the aisle. It's been like watching a birthday party for 3-year-olds.
*sigh* Now I remember why I left my last fandom.
