mostcurious tagged me for a meme a while ago, and since I'm upright and fluent for the next little while, I should do it!

I'm supposed to list ten things that recently made me happy and then tag ten others who should do the same.

1.  We may end up breaking even on our taxes this year!  *Snoopy dance*  Those of you who know about our IRS troubles (and more on that below) or have had them yourself, I'm sure you understand why this is cause for celebration.

2.  I've been very sick the past two weeks, unable to sleep for this cough/tickle thing I have.  However, this means that I've been able to catch 120 Minutes on VH1 Classic from 4am-6am.  Be watching for a music lyric meme, folks.

3.  I am watching the 5th season of MI-5/Spooks.  *geeks out*

4.  My friends have had lots of good things happen to them:  Shannon had a baby, rlanto a new and awesome job, Kim got back in touch, Jes got promoted, nsmom found someone worthy, and alissomora made yet another life-changing decision.  Change is good.

5.  A new church is meeting at our Temple, bringing in much-needed funds and hopefully a set of people who will be more than willing to lend a helping hand.  Yay!

6.  Bitch is the New Black.  Oh, you know I'm voting Hillary on Tuesday, although I don't rightly care who's on the Democratic ticket, in the end.  Also, RALPH!  Love you, man.  You're crazy, and I love you.  (Yes, authenticpoppy, I hear you screaming...but Hillary ain't got no religion, and I can hang with that FTM.)

7.  The WGA strike is over, and I can gorge on video again.  Oh, I love bananas and irresponsible drinking.

8.  Tomorrow is cleaning day.  This place needs a good scrubbin'/de-hairing.

9.  I'm making progress in my half-marathon training, although I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick down to 4:1 run/walk for the entire thing.  Then, I am hanging up my long-distance running shoes for good.  Yes, I consider 13.1 miles long distance, and if I have to go that far, it's what my bike is for!

10.  It is now March, and that much closer to springtime temperatures.  Thank the gods.



So, the IRS is on our a$$ for the $3400 we owe for 2006.  I sent in a check in January for $389 to get it started...and they promptly tried to cash it for $3389.  Um.  Yeah.  LULZ.  My bank refunded me the overdraft fees, and I sent in another check for $400.

They sent us a notice of hearing (i.e. they're going to act to garnish our wages and seize our property) if we don't pay the...$244 we owe them.  Um.  Okay.  LULZ.

I called the IRS (effing bankers' hours and NO special number for people who are in repayment) and the nice lady explained to me that I'd be receiving a REFUND check because I'd overpaid with my $400 check.

The IRS was showing that $3389 as having been paid, ergo the remaining balance was late fees & interest.  They're looking into it, and I have to return the refund check they're sending.

God, I hate being honest and all on top of my shit.  I doubt they would have accepted "but they told me it was paid!" as an excuse, though.  Sigh.

So I have to call back (whenever I have a full day to wait on the phone for the next available generic agent) and put that payment plan together.

Did I mention that we were AUDITED by the City of Columbus for 2006, and we owe them $325, all told?  GODDAMNIT.

But hey, I didn't get the "you really should consider buying a house, it'll help you on your taxes" speech from the CPA this year.  LULZ.

Sorry to hear you're still sick, but yay for the breaking even tax wise! *hugs* That burns about the IRS, man. If you hadn't said anything, they'd have had your record showing you'd paid off the debt? I'm like you, though, and would have to have told the truth, no matter how much it sucks.

Have been thinking of you - we need to catch up about certain plans.

*LOL* Buh? I don't care. It doesn't make a bit of difference to me. Hill's not going to run around erecting Ten Commandment statues on courthouse lawns or encourage Americans to follow the Bible as law like some other candidate said he was, so beyond that, I don't give a rat's ass.

Kinda cracks me up in a way. The day that Americans give up poly-cotton blends and Red Lobster by law, I'll pack my bags for real instead of just talking about it.

I'm able to vote for relevant candidates this year in the primary, and I have no idea who to vote for. Hillary is the more conservative than Obama. She's more in line with the Blue Dogs fiscally. And I know she's done a good job for upstate New York. She's a powerful lady and a great politician. There's no reason that I shouldn't vote for her.

Oh. Wait. Bill O'Reilly. Ann Coulter. Rush Limbaugh. Neo-Cons. Those big mouths flapping for four long years and making it impossible to have any quality quiet time simply because she is a Clinton.

Obama it is.

Hey! *refrains from completely obscene remarks IRS* I'm glad you are starting to get out from under those biatches. This year is the first year I file self-employed. I'm about to watch my hard-earned money get gobbled up by them.

I can't believe that you owe the city now. Especially when all the money essentially comes from the same places. Bush has given us his measly little tax cuts so that our local taxes have soared. Thanks King George, I needed that one time $300 to pay for the $500 a year increase on my property taxes!

You know, it's like they all are in this giant cluster... Oh, never mind.

MI-5 went on to five seasons??? Okay, I stopped watching after three. I stopped watching when the original cast went missing. Is it time for me to catch up nao?

I'm Johnny-come-lately on replies, but:


I think Spooks is in season 7 over in the UK, and the storyline is still really good, surprisingly enough. The new lead character is very strong and took over immediately to fill Tom's role. It's focused on the War on "Terror" and arms selling and all that right now. Now, if they ever kill off Harry...I'll stop watching for good.

I have majorly spatting friends. Its quite upsetting.

Oh man, I feel you on the IRS thing. I am in a dispute with them and my company right now. Way back in 05 they claimed that we over paid a tax so they sent us a refund check. Six months later, they decided that we did not deserve the refund and wanted it back, so I sent them a check. Later in 07, they sent us yet another check as over payment, which the owner(who checks the mail) deposited. Now they are again saying they want it back, but now with penalties and interest! I have sent them the amount back yet again less the penalties and interest, (cause I do not think we should pay that since they keep sending us the check in the first place!) along with a letter explaining everything. I have also instructed the owner that if he gets a check from the IRS, DO NOT DEPOSIT it until talking with me. *rolls eyes*
