*scratches head*

Wasn't this McCain story common knowledge during the 2000 campaign?  Because I a) recognized the story and b) recognized Vicki Iseman right away.  And IIRC, it was the GOP contenders who leaked the story...

Maybe I read too much left-wing media, but this is old news.  And really, the left/Democrats can do better.  And by better, I mean finding juicer scandals (helllllooooo, Keating Five = failed SNLs = analogous to ARM meltdown!) on the GOP side, not unearthing their own.

I don't remember it from 2000, but then I didn't pay much attention to the Republicans back then. Even so, I wish we could go back to talking about issues and things.

I know about the Keating Five (thank you Alan Greenspan- his new book is so long but very informative!), but I'm afraid I am behind on my lingo. SNL and ARM are...? :)

SNL is Savings and Loan, I'm pretty sure, but don't know what ARM means.

Hmm, Greenspan's new book is informative reading, huh? Maybe I should use my Borders coupon and get it...

The timing is certainly, er, interesting. I think what can be drawn from it, overall, is that McCain, who considers himself the king of ethics, is in bed (figuratively) with lobbyists. So you could say he's in bed with the telecomms and screwing the rest of us (too bad that's not my own line, it's great).

Well, it's not like he hasn't done this kind of thing before...leopards and their spots and all.

I'm always suspicious of people who do something they aren't supposed to, then turn around and become a crusader against the thing that got them in hot water in the first place.

Republican politicians in general seem to be good at that, yeah? Say one thing, do the exact opposite. Cognitive dissonance is king.

I want to hear nothing about a political candidate's private parts. I'd like everyone to get a grip on their own private parts and STFU. Seriously. Who cares?

I refuse to be sleazed this year. I'm probably working the congressional races next year, so I want to stay clean.

This is the way I'm deciding who to vote for:

I'm going to count the number of times each candidate says the words, Bless, Praise, Jesus and God during the R/D debates. The one that says those words the least gets my vote.

If either one of them endorses Intelligent Design by saying that schools should "teach the controversy" (WTF? What controversy?), they are both automagically disqualified from actually being intelligent and the other gets my vote. If both of them do it, I vote for a third party candidate that's at least semi-sane.

If you find this post completely inappropriate to your journal, please feel free to delete it.

What is this inappropriate of which you speak?

I wish this were just about infidelity...that I could stomach with a lot more aplomb.

ANYONE who says the words "intelligent design" with the idea that it's anything but dumbshit religious blather is disqualified to me. Rar.

OMG can this be over yet.

If you are speaking about the special interest stuff, I'm kinda hoping that the mega-conglomerates all try to outspend each other this year. It'll be fun to watch. Most of the big ones give equally to both parties and the ones that don't are predictable anyway, so it doesn't really matter in the long run. The campaigns were paid for long ago.

McCain has always played the game, and the media plays along by calling him a maverick once in a while for fun, but he's paid for too. Are you kidding me? The man hugged - HUGGED - Jerry Falwell. Puh-lease, sleeping with someone 30 years his junior is rehabilitating his image after that one. I want to know how much Borax it took to get that slime off after he rubbed jowls with Falwell. *shudder*
