Lately most of my posts start with the usual apologies...busy, tired, busy, etc.  Nothing's changed, yeah.

The good:

I'm reading A Widow for One Year, a recommendation from a co-worker.  It's good, and something that few people would consider a good read for me.  I'm forever being recced pap like Patricia Cornwell or Kathy Reichs, which is a complete 180* from the kind of fiction I like to read.  The Kid, he knows me.

My BiL is running for mayor of his suburb.  He's actually a real, true-blue, old-school Republican.  I don't know who he's running against, but if you locals read his platform, he's certainly the kind of guy the 'burbs need around here.

Jon Stewart's interviews with Evo Morales and Chris Matthews = why get your news anywhere else?  The man brings the chops and the razor every time, without the help of a teleprompter/earpiece.

The Cleveland Indians.  Boom.

The bad:

Having lots of low blood sugar episodes = exhausted 24/7.  The doctor gave me some good tips to help, but what I can eat is so limited that I end up cycling through a couple of times before things even out.  Pretty much the only things I can eat without immediately spewing are jelly and french fries - and today I realized that I'd bought sugar-free jelly -.-

The president vetoing SCHIP.  Asswipe.  Headline in the paper this morning:  "Bush:  Tactics Are Not Torture"  Suuuurrre...if it's Americans doing the torturing, it's a "tactic", not a crime against humanity.  Grrr.

The ugly:

Work has been utter hell.  We've moved our back room functions to our meeting room (across the lobby) from our front desk.  That was fine, but we simply DO NOT have enough people to a) fully staff the front desk, b) keep one person in the meeting room at all times to answer the phone, c) do the shifting required to get the downstairs area ready to close at the end of the month and d) shelve returned items.  If one person has a day off, and another calls in sick, WE'RE SCREWED.  Like, "you might be written up/fired" screwed.  Like, "admin doesn't care how short-staffed the department is, you can't have extra hours, here's three more things to accomplish before the end of the month, and oh yeah, patrons cannot detect that ANYTHING is happening" screwed. :|

HOWEVER, I have been utterly vindicated in my ranting about the lack of structured training from several people in other departments, so I now know that I am not crazy in my assertion that we can't expect people to perform library service as if they've sprung fully formed from the womb!  Or any customer service for that matter - you can learn something every single day.

Sigh...I love being responsible, being accountable, and training people to be independent, high-functioning members of a team, but having to do it slapdash and on-the-fly is frustrating enough to make me cry.

Randomly:

--Have taken up water aerobics on the weekends.  It's kind of fun, although some of the folks give me dirty looks :(  I hope I never gave anyone those looks in the past (although I doubtlessly did).

--I bought a heart rate monitor to start tracking my calories burned/time in target zones.  I love new toys.  :-)  Also because I can't seem to lose any weight to save my life, even though I'm getting in the recommended 30-60 minutes of cardio 6 days a week (including 3 hours on Monday/Wednesday).  My ass is dragging and I want to see results, dammit.  I do suspect that my step/spinning instructor has ruined me with her take-no-prisoners workouts.  Wah.

--I broke my 10 minute mile the other night.  It's something.

--Have been reading the flist and sporadically commenting.  Much loff to you all, as usual.

'Night.  :)

Why would folks give you dirty looks in water aerobics class? I've been going since early February of this year and it's been a blast.

And congrats on breaking a 10 minute mile. :)

Because I'm awesome? :D I dunno, other than the club I belong to is all women and the water aerobics folks are as cliqueish as they come. I'm also a sporadic attender, coming either Friday night or Saturday morning, depending on work.

Not letting it bother me, other than I hope I didn't ever do that to other folks! It's not nice. :)

I was wondering why you were getting dirty looks as well - pft to cliques!

I love water aerobics - I wish I had a pool because I would exercise so much more that way. The local Y does have water aerobics classes but they're all at inconvenient times for me.

I miss your posts *hugs* I'm about to start posting about the big trip this past summer, yay! Wish we could do it all over again.

Good luck to your BIL, let us know if he wins. And why on earth are you getting dirty looks at water aerobics? Good on you for doing them.
