Okay, running people:  I keep getting bruising under my first/second toes when I run.  What gives?  Other than my shoes are too tight...which they are, but dang.  My toenails are black.  :-&  Any advice?

I've slept almost half of this weekend.  Part of it is general exhaustion, partly from lack of exercise this week, and partly in preparation for Aunt Flow.  Way to ruin a perfectly wonderful long, holiday weekend.  -.-

I did manage to be awake when it came time to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] smutty_claus, so that's something to look forward to.  :)

Hope you all had great weekends!

It's a subungal hematoma (I think that's how you spell it). Usually is because of ill fitting shoes/and or socks.

If you do a lot of running mileage it's important to go to a running store and getting one of the people there to watch you walk and jog and fit you with a shoe that is engineered to your gait. I learned this the hard way after hurting my knee and then learning later that it was due to pronating my left foot when I ran and wearing a shoe that didn't offer enough arch support.

I've never had a black toenail myself but I've read about it. Some places suggest that you stick a needle under a toe yourself to drain the fluid, but I know I never could do that. So maybe get a doctor to look at it. The toenail is likely to fall off though. Which, although weird to see I'm sure, apparently doesn't hurt that much and your toe gets a hard layer of skin to protect it. Plus another nail will grow in its place after a bit.

I don't do a lot of mileage, but I am pretty sure my gait and form are allll sorts of not right. :\

I'm going to try to drain the blood myself (I'm diabetic, so I have needles and less fear). Eep.

This has happened before, and I've lost other toenails, but this is more extensive than the past.

Thanks for the info, I need to get fitted for better running shoes.
