I still can't get over my phobia of H/G to think of something to post at [livejournal.com profile] gt_hidden_room, but if H/G stories were written more like these, well...

(I must add here that I do read some H/G, specifically [livejournal.com profile] redblaze's War and Passion universe and [livejournal.com profile] water_witch's Till Eternity trilogy. I can feel the love for non-fluff chicks.).

Spent a couple of hours on the Pumpkin Pie chat, discussing the possibilities of Harry and Hermione ever getting together in canon. I'm of the opinion that no, it ain't gonna happen - I postulate that it would be a blatant JKR self-insertion - but there were a lot of things said that seem to push the chances even further away. I'll wait, for I'm sure that by book 7 Harry and Draco will have declared their Grand and t00by love for each other, leaving all but the R/Hr-ers unhappy. My ship (Hermione/George) isn't going to come in, so why by hopeful for anyone else? :-)

Ooh, I need to go to bed, don't I? I'm feeling a bit punchy, and it shows in my incoherent ramblings. *snores*

*bounces* This R/Hr would be so happy I'd be dancing in the streets! R/Hr AND H/D ... wooooooo!

Heee. . . You mentioned me. . . I'm all teary eyed!

Say, did you ever finish the Hermione/George story you'd been working on, the one where they were in paris. . . I liked that one!

Kele

I'm working on Chapter 5, and it's developing nicely, if a bit slowly.

*sigh* I am a staunch H/Ger, but I know what sort of reputation the ship has. I hate it. I really do. I agree with you that there is a LOT of really bad writing in the H/G shippy-dom. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've gone "BRRRACK!" at the beginning of an H/G fic and clicked quickly away.

Problem is, I see just as much smaltz and really bad writing in ALL the ships. It's not exclusive to H/G. Why does H/G seem to get all the flack for the sugar-sweet bad writing?

I admit to liking fluff. OTOH, I like death, destruction and madness too. I am not a fan of overboard angst, though. Even though my stories are waaaaay over the top with angst. I like to throw in a lot of anger, death and destruction. And H/G on the side. *grin*

There are solid reasons why I don't like other ships. There are reasons why I simply can't see anything past H/G in fanfic. There just isn't enough time in the day to read all of it. I hope people understand this. I really do.

Why do we like the ships we do? What is it? I suppose I am just curious.

Babbling on yer journal, sorry, PBG.

For me, I think it's the people who bring the H/G 'ship down, not always the writing. There is an insularity, much more than any other 'ship, to the H/G corner of the fandom.

They consider themselves 'queens', and act as such, bearing harsh judgement on all those who do not bow to their version of greatness (just try to leave constructive criticism at GT). When you can't accept anything other than 'H/G rozxorrrs!!1!1!', you leave yourself open to rough judgement. Plebe speak doesn't help either, nor did the Open Letter to H/Hr Shippers that went around (which is in my LJ memory bank). Most other ships don't take everything so personally or have their minions attack people personally for their views on shipping. Gah, people!

For me it's about characterization. I hate, hate, hate fics where Harry is some fluff artist who immediately opens up and shares his grand and t00by love for Ginny at age 17, then makes sweet and tender love to her. Ain't gonna happen. 99% of all H/G is like that, which squicks me to no end. Give me dom!Harry and sub!Ginny any day - that's more realistic to me.

This problem with characterization infects about 90% of HP fanfic genre, so it's not only a H/G problem!

Shipping only bothers me when people go out of their way to insult other ships or push their ship onto other people who obviously don't feel the same way. H/Gers tend to do that more than other ships it seems.

the gt_hidden_room has been putting up some nice yummy H/G badness (read: good), if you'd like to take a peek! :D

Sturgeon's Law says that 90% of everything is crap, and it is absolutely right. Ever taken a stroll through the D/G or H/D or R/Hr section of FF.net? It's a badfic breeding ground.

If the H/G people want to be insular, I say let them. Ignore them and they'll go away, or at least leave people alone. But I don't see how picking on them, jumping on them at every turn and creating LJ communities simply for the purpose of mocking them is helping anything. It's as if GT has suddenly become the acceptable people to hate and attack, just because they want to be isolationist. I mean, yeah, they're wanky as all get out, they've done and/or been involved in some stupid and unfair things, and to an extent they invite mockery, but I don't see how the hysterical negativity that's been so prevalent lately is necessary. Is it doing anything except making everyone involved look really childish? I personally don't have any love for them as a group (since as a D/G shipper I am anathema to them), but this whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

(Also, IIRC, the Open Letter that went around last year was created by a group of teenies on Sugar Quill, not GT, and it wasn't endorsed by TPTB at any archive.)

(And I'm sorry for ranting in your journal. This isn't personal or anything!)

I'm a fan of the Hidden Room, as it's created some rather interesting H/G drabbles! I don't hate GT at all - I'm an equal opportunity wanker. :-)

It does irk me that I've been denied privledges on their boards, and TPTB at GT troll around looking for 'the enemy' on other boards, LJs, and sites. They're not being isolationist, they're being reactionary. And sometimes the top brass tend to act as hysterical as the teenies, which is a hoot. They take it all waaay too seriously.

Sturgeon's Law doesn't apply at ffnet - 99.99999999% of everything there is total and utter tripe! *shudders*
