Jun. 11th, 2006 11:18 pmConfession time:
1. I've been looking at the new clips from the SWC movie, and
I don't know how much I'm going to like this movie. There, I said it. But of course, living in Ohio, we're unlikely to get it in theatres if it's only limited release. If it's being shown somewhere in Vegas during Lumos, I'd see it there.
Everything seems a bit choppy, I guess. Not as coherent as the series stuff. More schticky, less endearingly absurd.
I will do what I can to see it, I'll certainly buy it on DVD, but I'm anxious about not enjoying it as much as the series.
2. I finally gave in and made myself a MySpace account. It's been, for lack of a better word, awesome. Right now I'm having some fun conversations with a couple of people I went to school with. I'm so glad that not everyone I grew up with is a narrow-minded bigot.
But, uh, I'm not friending people I haven't met in real life (aside from
queenkatieett, who snarks hard enough to transcend the ether) over there. So, if you've had good facetime with me, we're cool. If not, that's what LJ is for.
3. Because of #2, I've not been giving as much attention to LJ as I normally would. I still love you all. MySpace isn't as cool as LJ. :)
4. Major things are going down at work. I'm crossing my fingers that everything shakes out good and the organization can get out of the Dilbert phase we've been in this year. It's proof positive that one person can mess things up for everyone, even if said person has the best of intentions. Talking to one of my former classmates has been great for my work outlook - she does a lot of firing at her job, too. Not many people do that, and unless you do it, it's hard to relate. But hey, even for the executioner, it's just a job, eh?
5. I've also begun the conversion from chemical cleaning products to natural/organic.
I got Organic Housekeeping, In Which the Nontoxic Avenger Shows You How to Improve Your Health and That of Your Family While You Save Time, Money, and, Perhaps, Your Sanity from the library, just out of curiousity.
Since my second surgery (in which my left nostril was almost completely removed along with my NG tube), I've had a very hard time with cleaning chemical irritation. But, like most people, I bought into the notion that stronger solvents were the best (works fast on your toughest stains! blasts soap scum away!).
I even took organic chemistry and biochemistry, and ignored the sage advice of my biochem teacher, buying KaBoom! and CLR and Mean Green cleaners in my never-ending quest to clean faster and better. *sheepish*
I think some of this comes from my mom, who grew up using only "organic" cleaners because, hey, poor. She never wanted to use "natural" cleaners, preferring the brand-name stuff.
Baking soda, vinegar, and boiling water is cheap, and my drains have never been cleaner! (Martha Stewart would be proud.)
I had some Murphy's Oil Soap around, because I like the scent and used it occasionally to clean wood doors and such.
Murphy's Oil Soap EFFING KICKS KaBoom!'s ASS when it comes to soap scum. The recipe that worked for me:
Heat 3/4 cup Murphy's Oil Soap (in a glass measuring cup) in microwave for 40 seconds. After showering (or running the shower and wetting all surfaces), dip a hard-bristled scrub brush in MOS and apply with a circular motion (you might have to add a tiny bit of water to the brush if there isn't enough on the walls to make suds). Most of the soap scum came off when I rubbed my hand over it, no brushwork needed.
Holy crap! O.O I cleaned the sink and other surfaces with the remaining MOS (about 1/4 cup was left; I added water to make 3/4 cup of solution), and dried it all with a towel. A-freaking-mazing. With KaBoom!, I usually had to apply and scrub two or three times to get the shower clean, alternating with trips outside to breathe in between scrubbings.
Later, I put up a new shower curtain (I'd rather pay the $3 at Dollar General every month for a new liner than spend that much of my time cleaning an icky curtain) and coated the sides of the shower with a very thin layer of MOS (Sandbeck recommends this, along with drying your shower after use, to prevent future soap scum buildup). Hopefully it won't be too slippery in the morning.
You know it's good if I look forward to cleaning. :P
