From the "dude, gross!" files:

A list of items that contain animal or animal by-products

Altoids, Junior mints, most cereals, Similac formula, and Kraft macaroni and cheese all contain some kind of pork or beef product.

Ew.

This post, of course, is just another excuse to use this icon. :D Fight the white flour power!

Blech. If I'm reading this correctly, WHALE SPERM is used for beverage/butter flavoring??

CATS???? What the . . .? EW!! I wonder which part of the cat is being used for beverage flavoring.

Gross!! Human urine is used for wine. Now THAT'S a little far-fetched and I'm not sure whether or not to believe that.

I can understand whale sperm (as disgusting as that is), since I don't think you have to kill the whale to get it.

Considering a lot of wine tastes like pee, I am not surprised to see it on the list! :D

Cats...I have no clue. And no words.

You aren't reading it correctily Spermaciti/Ambergis is an oily substance produced in a gland in the forehead of whales, primarily the Sperm Whale...not whale sperm. It's primary use is in perfumes.

Actually no, it's expelled from living whales too and rare. It can be harvested, but sperm whale products are fairly prohibited due to hunting restrictions..just don't buy stuff from Japan. They think it's their god given right to kill oceanic mammals that 70% of their society won't eat anymore. Shintoists my ass.

Err I meant that people don't go around killing whales just for this, it can be found floating in the water, a big nasty waxy lump.

Civet/absolute was originally a scraping from a gland in Civets, which aren't really cats, now its artificially made. Same with Urea, it's made from ammonia and carbon dioxide in a lab. This site is fairly misleading, they aren't quoting the entire passages from the Consumers guide...which I happened to own thanks to my strange grandfather..more on that someday. Heh

Yes, there are some things on the list that are now industrially made, but labelling doesn't make that distinction anymore (ever did?). It's hard to tell what is organic, natural or artificial.
