Ack. Does anyone else hate movies made to glamourize certain institutions? My niece wants to go to Annapolis, so the movie trailer is annoying me muchly.

Friday Night Lights? Varsity Blues? Whateva. Drumline? Ok, suuure. Yargh.

Stephen + Conan = the awesome. Even better: remembering to turn the VCR to channel 3 to record TDS and TCR.

I've been watching MI-5. What is the appeal of Matthew McFadyen? He's a scrawny Clive Owen look-alike...but he's growing on me. :> I might break down and see the latest P&P movie.

As I am only 4 books into the year, and my recommended reading list is only that long. Rec me a book! A good one, mind. I don't read vampire/sci-fi/fantasy-type stuff, and I hate Nora Roberts. So, what else? Fiction, non-fiction...I'm game.

Night, all.

I just finished How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo. It wasn't perfect, but it definitely had its moments. If you really love music, you would probably enjoy it. It was funny, sad, quick-paced, sexy, and the love story was intense, but never sappy. If different POV bother you (there are about 4 total), then you might get annoyed. But if not, I do recommend it. Overall, I enjoyed reading it-- and it made think about music in a way I haven't done in a really long time.

Since you don't read sci-fi/fantasy type stuff, it seriously limits the recs I have... but, let's see... The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion is brilliant. It's non-fiction, about how she copes (or, rather, tries to cope) when her husband dies suddenly and her daughter falls seriously ill. There's also The Secret History by Donna Tartt, The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Euginides, and Spilling Clarence by Anne Ursu. The Time Traveler's Wife is my favorite book in the world, and although there is a touch of science fiction in it, it is very grounded in reality, so give it a chance.

The only one of those I've read is Virgin Suicides...I try not to do the more popular stuff, but I've been hearing such good things about The Time Traveler's Wife and The Year of Magical Thinking.

*puts all on rec list*

Thanks a bunch!

Matthew McFayden=total hotness. Rawr.

And in Pride and Prejudice as Darcy. Guh *dies from hotness* If Archchancellor ever utters those words to me, I will be his slave forever.

Plus Matthew McFayden sounds exactly like Archchancellor does. Whole Brit accent and everything.

Btw MI-5 is really good but to enjoy the episodes you need to get the DVD editions. A&E doesn't do the series justice. I am hooked. Apparently Season 4 is out in the UK and I think we must try to get it before coming back to the states.

Season three just came out in the US and I am not sure when season 4 comes out here in the US as they haven't played it on A&E.

I've been watching MI-5. What is the appeal of Matthew McFadyen?

I totally cop to the Clive Owen thing -- he's tall and intense and he has that awesome deep voice. I really fall for those complicated tormented guys.

You should go see the new P&P anyway, but it doesn't hurt that Matthew MacFadyen's Darcy puts Colin Firth in the shade. ;->

I'm about halfway through Paging Aphrodite by Kim Green and it's absolutely hilarious. It's like being in a room with four of your best friends, all talking about the stuff real women talk about - sex, their bodies, life, etc.

Have you read The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Zafón yet? That was one of my best reads in 2005.

This weekend, I read a book called P.S. I Love You by Cecila Ahearn, which is about a woman who loses her husband and how he helps her get through the grieving period. It was an easy read, but really sweet.

And right now, I'm rereading My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult, which is okay, and raises some tough questions, but I'm dreading the ending.

Is it one of those back-from-the-dead stories? I'll give it a try! Thanks!

Piers Anthony's Biography of a Space Tyrant series.

Or his Tarot series. Or his Incarnations series.

I really like Piers Anthony :)
