To file under "people are clueless": you might want to go out and buy The Chronicles of Narnia rather than show up at the library two days before the film comes out, looking for a copy on the shelf. Got asked about Close Range, too (the book in which the story Brokeback Mountain appears).

Sometimes, Barnes and Noble is your friend. Especially if you huff and roll your eyes like you can't believe anyone would read books or borrow them from the library! :P

In other news: how cool is this? Heh, the possibilities for fun with this are endless...

And then there are people who think bookstores are libraries. When I worked at Borders this one guy came in (he was a local celebrity, thought he was hot stuff) with his trophy wife and they were being SO obnoxious. As I was wrapping up his book (it was Christmas time and he asked me to wrap his presents) he tells his wife that he wishes he could get the books, read them, return then and then get another book. His wife was all "oooh, too bad we can't do that all the time."

I just looked at them and said, "You can! It's called a library."

Heh. He complained to my manager that I was a snarky biatch. When I told the manager what happened, though he just laughed it off.

That is HILARIOUS!

We have patrons (teachers, mainly) who complain that you can only take X number of materials, you have to bring them back (gasp!) on time, and if you lose one, you have to *pay* to replace it.

Yeah, you can have as many books as you want, bring 'em back whenever or never...

Where we live now, we have the most visited and flourishing library in the country. We go at least once a month, and always run into someone we know, and if someone else's borrowed what you want ... plenty of more books, magazines, videos, CDs, and art in frames to choose from, no?
That person probably thought s/he was smart, 'getting it for free from the library' like. *snort*
I am now a pagan at the shrine of our library because I can get football magazines there and scan all I want from them without having to worry about the cost or not being ecologically sound.

Yep, this person thought she would just waltz in and pick up a copy of Narnia like no one ever comes into our library (we're part of one of the #1 library systems in the country; our building checks out 1.2 million items a year) and wow, people read?!

I honestly think she thought she was the only one who knew that the movie was based on a book. *headdesk*

Magazine subscriptions are the best use of resources - you get all the info without the clutter/paper waste. We recycle here, too. :)

Coming from the "Friend" in question--yes, I can personally assure you that Barnes and Noble has more than enough Chronicles of Narnia than they know what to do with. Strangely enough though, we've havent had much sales on it yet. I suppose it will come after the movie has been released. So, send them on over!

But as for Close Range, we've been having a bit of trouble keeping that one in stock. I've had to special order it constantly just to keep it in the store. Chicks love kissing cowboys!


Just be thankful you don't have to pick up spilled cups of Starbucks all over the place!
