This is the "20 Random Facts With An Evil Twist" meme. 20 facts, then I have to tag as many people as minutes it took me to get them down. Urk.
1. Almost all of my political viewpoints come from a class/social stratification base. (This has made the viewing of the Katrina debacle very...well, not enjoyable, but my two vocational passions - mass disaster recovery and class politics - have meant that I'm glued to the internets and TV all the time right now) Everything is created to maintain the status quo in regards to law, I think. Witness.
2. I still have a lot to learn about being a functional human being.
3. Honeybunch is the only person I've had an exclusive relationship with, and that's probably because he demanded fidelity from me straightaway.
4. I am utterly ruled by my hormones and by the cycles of the moon, and I think that astrology is pretty on the money with me. I try not to let this interfere with life any more than it has to.
5. My family was the first in our county to have a home computer.
6. I've never so much as put a cigarette to my lips, but I've been in situations where I've understood the appeal.
7. I dated a guy who could make me orgasm from kissing - he was that good. I was 17 and he was 15, and it was awesome.
8. I was our high school's goth chick. I skateboarded (back when you got beat up for even having a skateboard), dyed my hair black, and wore Docs and Chucks. Someone told me I ought to sue MTV for stealing my persona for "Daria".
9. I've always been interested in pathology and necrology. I think this has to do with the fact that I grew up just behind a cemetary.
10. I've officially considered myself an adult since I was 24. I figured this out while sitting in my mother's kitchen while she was dying, thinking, what am I going to do now? and realizing that I'd been an adult all along, and I'd coped with everything and nothing would be changing much. Who knew I'd been grown up all that time?
11. I spent my first year of college at OU on a full-ride scholarship. I never even applied to OSU.
12. I transferred to OSU for my sophomore year and knew I'd found my niche. Finding the right major took a little longer (about 6 years longer).
13. I have a degree in biomedical anthropology and I want to work as a crime scene technician. My dream job is to work with a mass disaster recovery team.
14. The first time I took a plane was to Nimbus in 2003. My second flight will be to Boston for Witching Hour.
15. I don't believe in the christian notion of God, but I do believe in destiny, karma, and man's great chain of being.
16. I have no interest in owning a house.
17. I have about the same level of interest in having children.
18. I like White Castle burgers, but can't eat them.
19. None of my brothers or sisters look alike. We all look like other people - my oldest brother favors his dad, my other brother doesn't look like anyone on our side of the family; I look like my paternal grandmother, my older sister favors both her mom and our dad, and my younger sister looks like a mix of folks from our mom's side of the family. Most people thought
hastyent was my sister at the wedding.
20. I rarely care what other people think of me.
Let's see...I'm going to halve the number, since it took me 18 minutes (not bad!) to get this down.

Date: 2005-09-12 10:07 am (UTC)Anyway, since I don't think we tell our friends enough what it is we like so much about them and I'm being fangirlish anyway. . .I'll list a FEW of the things I admire about you. . .
You are true to yourself and you don't care what others think of you. . .This above all else is important and something I TRY to teach my children.
You are willing to admit your faults, and you ::gasp:: constantly strive harder to improve yourself (so many people go around with the disillusion that they don't have faults, LOL!)
You do massive amounts of volunteer work, not for social status or recognition, but because you believe in the cause (for the record, being there and advising young girls in the day and age that we live in is a VERY important cause, IMHO.)
You have an open mind and a very broad range of interests. . .I loved that you knew all these little ethnic restaurants for us to go to and I've found myself CRAVING the hummus from that Vegetarian restaurant since I left. . le sob.
Politically, you and I are right on. . .I don't think I've read or heard a political opinion of yours that I didn't agree with wholeheartedly.
You are a very aware of yourself sexually, which is awesome and liberating because I know so many women who aren't. And while I thought I had my own fair share of tricks, that orgasm from kissing bit is IMPRESSIVE!
And now, if I read this right. . .You say your family owned the first personal computer in the country. . .O___o I need to hear more! Cause that's UPER cool!
LOL! sorry if this is a long and senseless post. . . I just wanted you to know how much I admire you and cherish you as a friend. You are special and unique and I wish there were more people in the world like you!
(((hugs you)))

We all have a lot to learn about being human. We know 1% of nothing. Everytime I look at the night sky, I think about this. Everytime I think about misfiring neurons in my brain, I am sure of it.
but I've been in situations where I've understood the appeal. You rock. Thank you for understanding.
My second flight will be to Boston for Witching Hour.
I want to go to this so badly. It's within driving distance for me. Like less than six hours straight across.
I want to comment on so many of those! Orgasm from a kiss. Oh, man. Just thinking about that... Ruled by hormones. I am so with you.

Date: 2005-09-12 07:22 pm (UTC)I lectured on that today! It's very true. Think about civil rights legislation. It usually takes a pivotal event to change things in America. For civil rights, it was the assassination of JFK along with the images of the riots and police brutality in the south. The Great Depression, Pearl Harbor, 9/11, etc. Hopefully Hurricane Katrina will be an impetus for change as well.
