Jun. 1st, 2005 12:06 amWorked a 12-hour shift today. Every year, the same damn thing happens - people call off on the day after Memorial Day. I had better not be called in to open tomorrow, or heads are gonna roll. /whiner pants
I've been *gasp* writing over the weekend. Not much has come of it, but I'm glad for what little progress has been made on that front.
I've also been spending a lot of time reading Snarry. Mmm, slashy goodness. :>
Lately I've been wondering about genetics and family resemblances. None of my siblings look like our parents (we're blended, so there are a lot of people we could look like, but we just don't) - we look sorta like other relatives. Case in point: I look a lot like my paternal grandmother, and my sister looks like some of our ancestors on my mother's side. But the resemblance is just sort of familial and passing.
I do wonder, however: how would it feel to look so much like another person? One of my coworkers looks exactly like her sister and her mother. Exactly - she dyed her hair light brown so that people wouldn't mistake her for her sister - and people still mix the two of them up. It's creepy, at least to me. Hm.

Date: 2005-06-01 06:39 am (UTC)I'm always amazed by those families where all the siblings look exactly alike, and like one or the other of their parents. My sisters and I resemble each other such that you could probably guess we were related if you didn't know, but we vary a lot, and we're all mixes of traits from both parents. Actually, the pictures from when we were ickles show a lot more similarity, if you compare individual pics from the same age.

Date: 2005-06-06 03:02 am (UTC)My sister and I went to a wedding where every.single.person on the bride's side of the family had the *exact* same shade of strawberry blond hair. It was super-strange, this sea of Clairol 112 on men, women and children! No one could get away with crashing the party and claiming to be related to the bride, that's for sure.
Famiy resemblences -foot-in-mouth
Date: 2005-06-20 03:30 pm (UTC)OOPS! Since she and I were engaged, I was invited to go visit her family back home. When we arrived I met her brown-hair/brown-eyed parents and their younger brother red-hair/green-eyes. I felt extremely stupid and mumbled all the way to the outhouse. In 1960 there were parts of Miss that were still without electriciry and indoor plumbing. I felt very, very stupid talking about recessive traits.
