That'll Teach Me
Dec. 24th, 2004 01:30 pmThe next time I gloat about having a day off work, I'll remember that karma hates arrogance.
Freezing rain. No power. Sub-freezing temperatures. Local restaurants all out of food by 8pm.
We are now fortifying ourselves with a kerosene heater and thanking the gods above that the power came back on after 36 hours (they were quoting Sunday night on TV). Andy's boss put us up in a hotel last night (woo!) but Bernie and Omar had to stay in the cold last night. :( They have fur coats though.
It's still damn cold here!
Bright side: I did start writing out a little one-shot H/Hr/R fic longhand over the past couple of days. Getting things down on paper has made me feel like writing again. Not all bad, eh?
So, how has the weather been for the rest of you? :P

Date: 2004-12-24 06:39 pm (UTC)Glad you got into a hotel. Nancy checked into the Ramada there off Sinclair last night and kicked herself for not grabbing a ride home with me Wednesday afternoon. As it was, it took me two hours to get to Chillicothe. But once I hit Chillicothe NOT A SINGLE DROP OF SNOW was on the ground. It was REALLY weird. So I got out at the Chillicothe shopping center to try to work the soreness out of my shoulders and neck from being so tense. Everyone stared at my car and people asked me, wide-eyed "Where are you coming from?" When I said Columbus and it was coming their way, they looked like deer in the headlights. :-) After that it only took another hour and a half to get home, as it should be from Chillicother. Not a single bit of snow has dropped here. No white Christmas for us, I guess. Weird.
Anyway, Lori made it to Wisconsin after a harrowing 8 hours to just get to Indianapolis. UGH. So we're not sure if our place has power or not. I guess the worst that can happen is we'll come home to rotted food in the fridge and a wet basement from the pipes bursting. Joy of joys.
Hope you have a great Christmas after all this yuck. Keep warm and safe!!
(We're really needing to hook up again sometime! Geesh!)

Date: 2004-12-24 07:08 pm (UTC)Ohio has the weirdest climate of anywhere on earth, I swear. Dublin and Hilliard only got six inches, no loss of power (good for you all). The northeast/east side are just getting back power with more than a foot of snow and an inch of ice. PITA!
We ended up at the Marriott at 71 and 161. Great night, even with all the wibbling and stress (and lack of food in the area). Strangely, my stomach has behaved through it all. :)
And yes, we should meet up and do something. Another movie? Or shopping?
Happy Christmas!
