First off, Happy Chanukah to all of you all who celebrate it. *mmm potato pancakes* *writes down [livejournal.com profile] heidi8's recipe*

Well, what would the holidays be without a little angst?

I received a call from my sister-in-law on my cell today, and thinking that my brother may have heard about the CIA position, I answered it at my desk. She didn't mention the job, but she did inform me of two things:

1. One of the packages meant for my cousin Shelly had been mistakenly delivered to their house;

2. That my niece was getting married this afternoon. o.O That would be my next-to-oldest-oldest-if-you-don't-count-steps niece. She's eighteen. The good news is that she isn't pregnant. My sister and I take full credit for her graduating from high school without a fat belly. I agreed to spread the word around up here. I guess they didn't want a chapel wedding, so they went to the courthouse. Linda says that he's an okay kid, and "handles Stevie very well." They've known each other a long time, Stevie and Chris, so that's something. My younger sister and I are pretty broken up about it, but I'm going to hold off with the tears until I can tell my dad. Or maybe not. *sobs*

The other brother is keeping his mouth shut about his son under pain of death. I do want to ask him if he thinks wrestling (which is what Zach is doing this year) is 'manly' enough for him - especially considering he goes to this middle school (read down and you'll see what I'm saying).

Sorry, I know I wanted to have lots of good, positive stuff to say, and I do! It's so rare that our family has big or awful news though.

Today = more angst. Wrote up teenaged shelver I found reading in the stacks last night instead of doing his work (like, sitting at a study desk reading). One more slip-up and he's gonzo; he's still within the 90-day probation period. He's fucking lucky he still has a job, since he was ten minutes late to work today. It was the right thing to do, only mildly bureaucratic for a write-up, and the fear of God is in him (I hope). I like my job even on days like these. I'm a crazy, power-hungry bitch and I ain't apologizing for it. I'm also diplomatic, straightforward and kind, so it all evens out. It may also be manic-depression. :-P

But tomorrow - more shopping! :D Possibly may buy The Dress. :D Have travel reimbursement check! :D Will have money from Escort of d00m! :D Will see family on Sunday! :D

*jaw aches from alternately grinding teeth and smiling like a lunatic*
