As a break from the maudlin and mundane details of my life, here are some fic recommendations. I was *gasp* trolling through ffnet yesterday under heavy search criteria. It is truly amazing how awful the stuff is over there. Not that it was ever a bastion of high-quality HP fanfic, but you could look through recent uploads and find one or two things worth reading.

Prior to Nimbus 2003, I'd read [livejournal.com profile] slytherincess' outtakes, Blankets of Pansies and Wick and became interested in Muggle Studies. I came back to it, finally, for a full read-through.

It has completely ruined me for all other characterizations of Pansy Parkinson; Julie has given her a biting wit and an insight into people that one would expect from a true Slytherin. She's likeable, able to see through Draco's machinations, and can put both he and Harry in their place time and time again. Pansy will never be the annoying, easy-to-bed, clingy, bitchy, mirror-to-Draco that is seen in many other fanfics, to me at least. It's great to be able to root for a character that most fanon authors put down.

There is a cookie for chapter 8 up at her LJ. Go, read, tell her what you think! :-)

All of the below are R-rated and complete.

A couple of fics by [livejournal.com profile] iscaris: The Mirror Never Lies, a slightly fluffy Harry/Ron slash piece, and Blood, Tears and Drowning Fears, which is Draco/Hermione.

Memosyne by Maenad (do any of you know if she has a LJ?). Hermione and Snape are forced to work together, but more than a potion comes out of this crucible.

The Error of My Ways by Strega Brava. Percy/Hermione.

Mirror by [livejournal.com profile] aome. George spends an evening with his mirror. Mild twincest.

The Ultimate Harry Potter Cliche Catalogue by [livejournal.com profile] chowderhead. A parody to beat all parodies. [livejournal.com profile] thetreacletart, this author reminds me of you :-) The smut version is here (it's a Word file that you'll have to download).

Am going to see Love, Actually today with my sister. Let's see, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Laura Linney, Alan Rickman...if I can remember the plotline to this an hour after the movie, I'll be surprised. *drool*

Thanks for the recs! I've been meaning to read Muggle Studies for a while now as I've heard many wonderful things about it. I also read some of the out takes and ... Whoa! ... very good. :D
