If you belong to the Gryffindor Groupies or Hogwarts Boudoir Yahoo!groups:

Due to Yahoo's increasing censorship/restrictions on their groups' content, the moderators are going through and removing all members who do not have their age listed in their public profiles. Sorry, to those of you who are modest about your age; we cannot take a chance on Yahoo shutting us down for possible distribution of pornography to minors.

Here's how to do it:

Sign into your Yahoo!groups start page. Click on 'Account Info', then 'Edit/Create Profiles'. From there, click on the 'edit' link in the yellow userID area. in your profile page, click on 'Edit Profile Information' and add your correct age. Then click "Save Changes." Voila! Your age will show up and everyone is happy.

If you've been kicked off or would like to join us, please re-apply and one of us will approve you if you are of age. If you are not of age and state the wrong age in your public profile, beware the wrath of the mods and listmum, never mind Yahoo.

Don't know if you're one of the mods of either list, but I run the Menage a Trio list. For the reason that it's an adult list, I require everyone to list their age or send me a statement they're at least 18. It might be annoying and a headache, but it's also CYA.

*lol* Nope, PSA = public service announcement.

Wonder where your mind has been wandering of late? ;-)

Yeah, we did the age statements before, but Yahell is giving some groups grief about it because they can't *see* that age statement from the member page.

And the thing is, Yahell isn't giving the groups notice, but shutting them down immediately.

So, you might want to rethink those age statements. If the person lists an incorrect age in their public profile, that's not the list owner's fault.

Well that's just nasty. I guess I'll have to talk to my other mod about requiring age in profiles. Ugh. Thanks for the heads-up.

Excuse me for intruding on your LJ and your time. As co-mod of Menage_a_Trio and as a historian of HP Y! Group closings, [livejournal.com profile] simons_flower sent me to your entry. I have some questions in the interest of establishing facts.

Yahell isn't giving the groups notice, but shutting them down immediately.

Which groups, precisely, are you referring to?

What establishes that no age in the member profiles is the reason for the closures? You have just said that it wasn't by warning. Was contact made with Yahoo! after the closures to establish this information? By who?

Yahell is giving some groups grief about it because they can't *see* that age statement from the member page.

What is the nature of this "grief" that Yahoo! has been giving out? Are you talking about a second set of Y!Groups that are receiving warnings? And if it you are referring to the same deleted groups as above, again, how was the reason for closure established?

Thank you for your patience with my questions.

By the way, if you are interested, you can read my articles about the Y!Group closings here:

I, personally, have only heard of the chan groups being closed for TOS violations, and general grumblings (our listmum, [livejournal.com profile] camillabloom may know more than I, as I'm passing on information for her groups) about groups being shut down for TOS violations.

It may only take one complaint, who knows? Our tightening of age-statements is so that Yahoo, if they decide to take a look at our groups, can spot no instance of possible TOS violations in our membership list, at least on our parts. If a member lists a false age in their profile, we cannot be held responsible. If we allow a member to join based on an age statement, Yahoo can't see that immediately, and it makes our role a little murkier. We'd rather be straightforward in asking our members to show their age up front.

I don't think I'm much help in the 'history' area, sorry! Was just passing on information, hearsay, what have you, and trying to be proactive. The witchhunts are not going to stop at chan. :-S
