Well, well, well.

No, I don't feel sorry for GT, they of half-truths and outright lies. I do feel sorry for Paula, who I assume has something to do with registering their domain, and who seems to have been crucified for the wrongdoings of others.

The sad thing is that, instead of forming a united front and bowing out gracefully, they chose to attack each other and cast blame upon blame before posting a dramatic manifesto that detailed very little about the actual reason for the site's closure. It's kinda become par for the course with these folks, however. The truth will out in the end, I'm sure.

That karma, she is a fickle creature. :>

I have to say that I saw this coming, but I never imagined myself feeling so sad when it did.

See, I always knew that gt.net was a tight-knit group of friends having a good time. On many occasions I would read all your inside jokes and things in the posts, and it really made me feel like an outcast to your world. You all had chosen friends, and it was plain to see that it would be hard to become a 'regular' while many people are pretty cold to what GT refers to as "newbies". So I never came here that often, because to me you guys didn't always seem so friendly.

The reason I knew something like this could happen was because of that. Because so many people ruled the side and that after a while everything could be blown out of porportion with all of your different views. Because some of you did seem a bit selfish, and mean. I have really only one REALLY good net friend to tell the truth. Sometimes I forget that I have never even met her because she has become so much of who I am. I know that I could never, EVER, let one little fight come between us. Maybe that is why I am so sad about all of this. Because I also hate to see friends fight. But forgiving is up to you. If the friendships mattered that much, then I think you would forgive. It doesn't mean you have to start up the site again...That seems so far dead and buried. But there is always time to say 'I'm sorry'.

Anyways, many of you are probably cursing me off in your heads right now so I'll leave and all that. I just wanted to share with you a different perspective on this. If you want, you can add me to your 'hate list' too.

You are so right that does sum it up. I always found it to be a very cliquey sort of place even in those very early days and it was almost impossible to break in to the circle even if you wanted to. Basically the group was fairly introverted and concentrated around paying homage to a few individuals and their work. Another friend summed it up very nicely when she said on one of the boards that it was a waste of time asking her for fic recs as people only ever read what was on GT and never looked outside. Those points about friendship in this post really so ring true. I know that were this up on the boards at GT it wouldn't survive very long as they had a habit of vigorously removing ANYTHING that showed the mods in a less that saintly light! There is a lot of bitching about GT and you have to take most of it with a pinch of salt as it is just from people who want to draw attention to themselves but this seems to come from someone who genuinely enjoyed the stories. I must say it comes as no surprise about GT, the histrionics I have seen in the past over even little things make you wonder. Come to think of it I don't think I have ever seen more female hormones outside of a dairy herd and that is going some considering one of them is a bloke.

That was me. The whole thing was very tacky, they can't even say goodbye gracefully. A simple "After two years we've made a decision to call it quits" would have been much more professional and a hella lot less wanky.

But then ... we wouldn't have all this entertainment I suppose. ;-)
