Oh my, I have had the most fun weekend! The curse of February is broken!
I went out to dinner with one of my besties to Black Olive, a newish restaurant in a popular area of town. We were able to be seated without a reservation (which is a true testimony to the state of economy that one can go to any of the dozen restaurants in the Short North at 8pm on a Friday without a reservation), and had the AWESOMEST food!
Kira and I started out with a hummus and tapenade, which came drizzled with a balsamic reduction (seems to be their go-to sauce) and fried pita half-rounds. The hummus was gritty - just the way I like it - and the tapenade smooth, full of flavor.
I had seared eggplant with seasonal vegetables (which, this being winter, was onion and zucchini) and a side of fried potatoes. If I'd been more on top of things, I would have taken pictures. Three filet mignon-sized slabs of eggplant, broiled with balsamic reduction and drizzled with some olive oil. Heaven on the tongue, I tell you. It was rich, though - I ended up eating one eggplant filet and 3/4 of the veggies before I gave up. Doggie bags in the Short North?! Wut.
Kira had a chicken pasta with a greek flair - feta, tomatoes, basil, and of course, the balsamic - that was nicely turned out and a huge portion. She only managed about a third of her dinner, but she was also taking up Black Olive's smooth cosmopolitans a a fast clip. Hee. I love being the DD sometimes. :-D
Then, Axis, which was full of fairy princesses *flings hand in air* Whatever. So, texting for help, we ended up at Sweatin', which is a .
Oh. Mah. Gawd. I never knew why people hated hipsters. I know now. Yes, your American Apparel outfit and ballet flats make you look TOTALLY edgy! No one else rocks the dirt moustache quite like you do, man! Dancing to a Fuck Me I'm Famous remix of crappy pop songs is way cooler than just jammin' to the radio mix.
*shakes head* I'm ooooooold.
Walking back to the car, we spied an open car door, out of which a girl (with two black X's on her hands) was puking her guts out. So, snatch keys, grab vomit girl and her roommate, and detour downtown via Donna's Taxi Service. Kira put our numbers in one of the girls' phones and told her to CALL US if they ended up in that situation again (their sober "friends" had left them a couple of hours before, those tossers, grr) rather than risk, at best, a DUI arrest.
The car was gone when I checked about 1:45 today, so they made it to their apartment okay. This isn't Detroit, but damn, everyone is utterly stupid until they're about 23, eh?
I dragged my sorry butt up this morning to get to the Y to try out an aerobics class. It is quite amazing how much easier it is to get up after 4 hours of sleep when you've not been drinking the night before! I liked the class - it was a lot of different plyometics, step, rebounding, and jump roping - and I'm hoping my friend Shannon will like it too, when she joins me next week. (Uh, Columbus peeps? You want to come with me to the downtown Y on Saturday mornings? Hit me up!)
Then, I made a critical mistake - I decided to stay for yoga. Ow. Ow. Whoa. OW! I am not cut out for yoga, man. My knees and hips do not like it one bit. *rubs flanks*
But long workouts mean one thing - I discovered yet another culinary slab of heaven - the Northstar burger. Holy. Moley. So. Good. I am crazy for anything made with beets, and to get a veggie burger that tastes like beef, the forbidden food?
I want that every day of my life!
Definitely taking my godson there to show him that not all veggie burgers resemble hockey pucks in size and consistency.
Right now I'm alternating between hot pickled cauliflower and mixed nuts dipped in peanut butter. Do you think I'm having symptoms of PMS? Really? :-P
Tomorrow is Lodge cleaning day, then I'm heading out to see The Airborne Toxic Event. Can't wait. Yay March!
So, how was YOUR weekend?
