I see many folks have declared 2009 the year of "me" - whether it's a resolution to be healthier, to be happier, or, in

roguebitch's words, "to not be so hard on myself and to love myself better," - so I'm just gonna declare it:

2009 is the year of YOU!

That's right, be selfish. Or not. Read more. Watch TV less. Waste time. Quit wasting time. Do whatever you need to do. Do what you want to do.

Put a stake through the heart of the energy vampires in your life. Spend time with people who appreciate you, warts and all. Drink too much. Get on the wagon. Have dessert. Hold the cheesecake. Take the last cookie. Leave the last brownie.

Stop worrying if your ass looks fat (who cares). Remember that everyone is just as worried as you are about looking stupid, fat and/or silly. They're not looking at you. Trip up? Move on. Fall down? Get up.

Hug everyone you can. Don't hide your feelings or your love.

Ration your time, and set aside plenty for yourself. Don't rationalize it.

Run. Walk. Hike. Bike. Climb a tree. Relax.

Pick one thing you want to change, then change it. Or one thing you don't want to change, and work it.

Wallow in self-pity, then get over it. Pull up your bootstraps and let down your hair. Hide under the covers when the world is too much. Put on your big girl panties and deal with it.

Take responsibility and let go of guilt.

Love yourself as much as you love others. Expect the best. Prepare for the worst. Write it down. Cry it out. Let it go.

Be yourself without apology.
