quidditchgrrl: (New Years)
[personal profile] quidditchgrrl
So, 2007. Not the worst year ever. It gave me enough room to catch my breath, to step back and plan for the moment instead of having it all rush over me in a tsunami-like deluge. Can't complain.

Okay, so. On with the year in review.

Books read this year: tagged at Library Thing

Movies seen: DVD Aficionado <-- I finally figured out how to use the folder option! *grabs one internet*

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Climbing at a gym, did a 5K, went to a strip club (in the customer area), started training for a half-marathon

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make resolutions; I'm very Yoda/Confucius/Sun-Tzu - anytime is a good time to start a journey.  I am working on mah fitness right now.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I don't think so.  If so I forget.  Heh.  I have a friend due in 7 weeks, though.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Well, a long-time acquaintance died unexpectedly in late winter, and the father of my childhood best friend died three weeks ago.  I don't know if they fit the definition of "close," but both of them were good people and I was sad that they left this mortal life.

5. What countries did you visit?
No countries.  I went to NOLA, and NYC.   Outside of that, the normal trips to Cleveland and other Ohio destinations.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
More emotional support from Honeybunch.  I'll second the year of emotional loneliness, at least from that front.

7. What date from 2007 will remain etched in your memory?
I don't think about things in dates - but there was the first Fight Club that ended rather strangely, however I can't say that I have a lot of memory of it.  ;-)

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Mastering the urge to kill Letting go of some anger and tension, giving myself room to think about the next step, and working hard to try new things, just because.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not finding a shiny, new, more fulfilling job.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Let's see, there was the fall in January (which has left me with periodic dizziness, I think).  I pulled my back in late April, but recovered nicely (see what working out + actually DOING your PT can get you?).  Falling off my bike and scraping the hell out of my arm/leg in August.  Then the creeping crud from last week.

Compared with previous years, I'll take it!

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Hm.  Probably plane tickets.  :-B

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Friends, family, and pretty much anyone who gave me an "atta girl" when I needed it most.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Anyone who lied to me, whined about their oh-so-crappy-but-I-don't-want-to-change lives, or tried to get ahead by undermining others.  Also, The Kid's, and mine, on occasion.

14. Where did most of your money go?
The motherfucking IRS.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
NOLA and NYC.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
"Grace Kelly" by Mika

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder?
Happier.

ii. richer or poorer?
A bit richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Forgiving myself, and others for not being perfect.  Climbing, cycling, running and generally being outside.  Seeing friends.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Sucking.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
At my sister's house.

21. How will you be spending New Years?
Kicking Honeybunch's ASS at Uno!

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
I fall in love every day, man.

23. How many one-night stands?
I maintained my number of one-night stands at zero lifetime.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
All the usual - Colbert, TDS, Countdown.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
My shit list remains pretty much unchanged.  I don't hate anyone though - bad karma.

26. What was the best book you read?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Running With Scissors
The Devil's Feather
The Night Ferry

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I don't think I really "discovered" anything this year.  I got into Paramore, Blaqk Audio is pretty cool.  I am very ashamed to say that I enjoyed Blackout.

I ALSO DISCOVERED KARAOKE.  PHEAR MAH MAD KARAOKE SKILLZ.

28. What did you want and get?
More peace of mind.

29. What did you want and not get?
A smaller bill from the motherfucking IRS.

30. What was your favorite film of the year?
How about I didn't like The Last Legion or The Lady in the Water, and The Simpsons Movie was pretty average.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 32, and we went out on the day before and ate during the middle of a Saturday lunchtime at an empty restaurant on Sawmill Road.  Did I mention that it was Michigan Saturday in Columbus?  'Nuff said.  Blissful solitude.  I also took the week before my birthday off work.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not paying the motherfucking IRS $500 a month every month.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Trying to be fashion-forward without looking like I'm trying too hard.  And wearing Adidas trackpants during every other moment.

34. What kept you sane?
Having a long-time friend come and work in my department, and running like the devil's chasing me.

35. What celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Clive Owen, as always, Wil Wheaton, as always.  Sometimes, Stephen Colbert.  Most of the time, Gaspard Ulliel.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I was stirred by most of them, SCHIP and the continued erosion of the Constitution being near the top.

37. Who did you miss?
Oh, lots of people.  I am missing The Kid something horrible right now, though.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I've met a lot of new people, its been great - and I've gotten to know several people better, which is awesome, too.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.
You can lie to yourself all you want, but MONEY DOES BUY HAPPINESS.  It does, it does it does.

Did the annual HP-Ohio NYE day lunch, which finally settled at Gordon Biersch.  Met [livejournal.com profile] ztrooper, although I didn't know it.  Caught up a little with [livejournal.com profile] rlanto, which could probably have waited until the 11th, but.  Had some truly awesome food, which I got to see a little later, per usual.  Had Jeni's.

Finished out the year by seeing I Am Legend.  Still slightly confused and it made me waaaaayyyyy anxious until the end, which was cool.  /trying to avoid LJ-cut for spoilers

Off to practice my card-playing until we begin the bloodbath at 9pm.  Hope you all have a GREAT New Years, wherever you are, and here's to having a better year in 2008!
