Preliminary Thoughts
Jul. 16th, 2005 11:11 pmChapter 2: Best chapter of the entire series to date. Snape, Narcissa, Bellatrix, and an Unbreakable Vow. Now, that is angst to the extreme.
I was happy to note that Molly has finally come to realize that Fred and George aren't the black sheep of the family and Percy is going to be a right git from now on. She certainly redeemed herself.
JKR is a sadist - I know she must be cackling with glee at all the R/Hr and H/Hr shippers tearing their hair out right about now. *hee*
The H/D shippers are probably creaming their knickers and writing hot boyslash even as I type this. :P
Ginny is finally in character. So is Hermione - I love her cruel streak (when it's not being directed at Ron or Harry).
Did anyone think of the parallels between Eliza Bennett and Lady Catherine De Bourgh's meeting in Pride and Prejudice and Harry and Scrimgeour's meetups? I can certainly appreciate Harry's cheek, although it seemed to happen so abruptly, since the book picks up very shortly after OotP, and CAPSLOCK!Harry seems to be nowhere in sight.
The entire situation with Snape took me completely by surprise - I have to say I loved it when he called Harry a liar and a cheat - Harry deserved that. Snape the DADA teacher, the Half-Blood Prince, and the killer of Dumbledore. I believe there was some sort of agreement between Snape and Dumbledore, and that Dumbledore was calling on Snape to fulfill that agreement. Or, Dumbledore knew what had to be done, and was imploring Snape to do it. We just got to see Harry's biased view of it. I still want to know the rest of Snape's story, and where Draco is - I can only imagine all this plotting was the toughest thing Draco has ever attempted. I'll take partial redemption!
I was not impressed with Remus/Tonks, but Harry is no doubt oblivious to these things.
I'm tired, I'm overwhelmed, but man, am I happy.
