OMGALIVEDEAD
Nov. 11th, 2004 02:35 amI'm alive. I'm married. I'm not on my honeymoon.
Never in my life have I been so grateful for my friends and family. It's so true that the best test of your self is found in the friends you have. I'd never have made it through without them. *smooches*
Now, The good: My wonderful family and friends, once again. They did everything, from soup to nuts, literally. From moving and setting the tables to getting my dress off before I puked, they did it all and made it look effortless. And coming from someone who Gets Things Done, it was very humbling and comforting to know that they would do all of this for me, without a thought and with a smile.
Other goods: My very cute niece and nephew. The way my dress fit (more on that later). Orange Faygo sparkling water. The makeup lady at Dublin Hair and Nails. And my friend Laura showing up unexpectedly. My niece lighting the Unity candle for our family's side. My readers. Having a picture taken with my girls. Not puking on my dress or messing up my lines.
The bad: The photographer. Mind you, he's pretty good, but he was a PERVERTED old man. I guess he thinks what he says is cute. Like Bill O'Reilly on the phone with his producer cute. When I wanted a cheap photographer, I really got one. Har har. I can't imagine him taking pictures of girls for their senior portraits. Ick.
Other bads: Opening the boxes of chicken breasts to discover that the manufacturers think you can feed 25 people with just 8 chicken breasts. Then having to send a bridesmaid out to get more - less than an hour before the wedding. Brother complaining about ex-wife being invited to the wedding (which may cross into ugly territory if I say more). Grand-nephew crying in the bathroom after he and his mommy traveled 600 miles to see the ceremony.
And alright, OMG, the heinously ugly.
I'd been under the weather in the days leading up to the wedding. I missed a couple days of work and didn't do much of anything to get prepped for the wedding, but I managed to get it all done early in the week. Didn't feel well Wednesday but chalked it up to bad food or hormones or something.
I started spewing like a champ after picking up one of my Lovely Bridesmaids on Thursday. This time it was bile (which you immediately recognize by sight and taste even if you've never seen/smelled it before). LB and my sister decorated the dining room and ceremony room; I put together the plastic champagne glasses. I quit eating after losing lunch that day, 'cause gah bile.
Friday I alternated with short bursts of activity followed by long rests on the couch and episodes of the green death. I made it through the rehearsal and collapsed in our hotel room.
Saturday, I felt better. I looked a lot worse for wear though. God bless the Mary Kay lady who fixed me up right! We got our hair and makeup and rolled to the site. Everything looked good...until it was time to put on the dress. Good timing, that. I gave everyone fair warning and brought up, literally, a gallon of liquid. I felt soooo much better after that, though, and the orange Faygo water helped immensely.
Me: I've got to take this bag out.
Sister: I'll get it, just leave it.
Me: But, it's gross.
Sister: Do you know what I *do* for a living? *looks* Damn. You're going to the hospital after this, right?
Me: Probably, yes.
My dress fit perfectly. Better than perfectly - like it was made for me to wear - and I looked fabulous, if I do say so myself. I only have clavicles in the pictures because I was partially mummified! I got down the aisle, we got married, hugged about 90 people (shudders at all the germs...germs!), and ate dinner. Or, everyone else ate dinner. I tried to sip water, which sent me and my sister to the bathroom a little later to throw off the dress in time for me to hit the tiles again.
But, like a good zombie bride, I returned to cut cake and dance to the "Time Warp." My big contribution to the night was holding Kayden while his mommy helped clean up the place.
As you may have surmised, we spent our honeymoon night at Mount Carmel/Saint Ann's IV and Sheets. The intake staff were very sympathetic to our plight, and I was never so glad to see a phlebotomist in my life. I was partially mummified - they gave me three bags of saline and a bag of potassium chloride to stabilize me. Severe dehydration, severe electrolyte imbalance, and...severe constipation. XD I guess it's all related, huh? They kept me under observation until 4 the next day.
hastyent, one of the Lovely Bridesmaids, had to take my long-distance LB to the airport. I never got to say goodbye! :((
The poor nurse didn't want me to leave - I'd eaten some food and it was making me ill, again - but I figured if I was well watered, I'd live.
Oh god, I wanted to die. Gatorade and laxatives will do that to a person. Having an automatic gag reflex to the sight/smell of food will too.
I sat up for extended periods on Tuesday, and I ate small bits of food yesterday (but some of it came back up). I am looking on food in general with more favor though, which is a good sign.
All in all, though, it was a raging success. I only have one picture online so far, but I will of course post them when I have more to show!

Date: 2004-11-11 04:49 am (UTC)Sorry to hear about you ailment. Hope you have a doctor trying to figure out why you got sick in the first place (dehydration, etc are all symptoms of something else and/or the result of your not eating/drinking).
But it sounds like you had a wonderful time (up until the afterwards). Someday I'll have to regale the flist with the woes of our wedding tale.
Again, congratulations and I hope you get better soon so you can enjoy your married life!

Date: 2004-11-11 07:37 am (UTC)Please, get better soon, sweetie. I know all about being ill on your wedding day, but I think it's a good omen. Ed and I have been together for 4 1/2 years, and show no sign of stopping. *grin* I'm sure you and hubby will be the same way, love.
*sends you get well vibes*

Date: 2004-11-11 08:01 am (UTC)At least you have an intereting story tell the grandkids someday, because what is a wedding without a good story behind it? :D A similar incident happened when I was Maid of Honour at my best friend's wedding. She was so sick they had a chair off to the side at the end of the aisle in case she needed to sit down during her vows. *grin*

Date: 2004-11-11 03:18 pm (UTC)I'm just so verrah sorry you were sick :(( That is SUCH a bummer. LOL, though, you have to admit that will be a fun wedding horror story to tell.
Meh, I got married in overalls at the courthouse. . .8 months pregnant with Christopher. . .
And Johnny I still like each other after 8 years. . .Sometimes I think wedding hitches are a sign of a happy marriage.
Take care of yourself. . .Speaking as someone who got severely dehydrated with both her pregnancies. . . .BLEH! I know what you went through. Granted, I wasn't getting married at the time. . .er. . .or maybe I was. . . .
Okay, will stop rambling. . .I love you! Am sending you happy marriage thoughts and get well vibes.
