quidditchgrrl: (Become the media)
Gah. Somehow I knew I'd be up at 4:30am on Election Day. Pah.

But there is a bag of Hallyween candy (anniversary present!), so I am at least sugar-fueled.

The president's last minute desperation is amusing to me. I'm trying to be kind to those who are just now interpreting the truthiness and trying to escape the sucking moral vacuum that is the Republican party/neoconservative movement.

However, I'm worried that an overwhelming victory by the Dems will cause a free-for-all, like what happened with the 1994 Republican takeback of Congress. That seems to have turned out badly. [livejournal.com profile] photosinesis, you're killing me.

I took a "which candidate shares your values" quiz for governor, and, not surprisingly, none of the candidates was a clear winner. Still voting for Strickland. I feel vaguely dirty. :\

By the looks of things in the blogosphere, I missed awesome eps of TDS/TCR (due to aforementioned anniversary...celebrations). Pout.

I also want to watch Studio 60, but alas, I work Monday nights. Anyone willing to help me get started?

Sleep would be really fine right about now.

The biggest fluff piece masquerading as journalism in this town:

Jon Stewart: The Left's Answer to Bill O'Reilly

Yeah, me too. I'm thinking Dan Williamson is trying to pad his resume to get a better job with Fox News, or maybe The Dispatch.

The argument could be better made for Keith Olbermann, or even Stephen Colbert (how many pundits can get Wikipedia tied in knots, or instigate vote-running at a foreign website?). Jon doesn't go on many tirades (unless Bob Novak is making noise), and he certainly doesn't tell people to call/protest/boycott anything.

There isn't even insight in this article. It's just right for O'Reilly's ilk, a good header and very little substance.

Does anyone use The Daily Show as their only source for news? I don't know anyone who does. Maybe I'm just naive about that and there are millions of people who are laughing at most of the jokes without any knowledge of why they're funny. :-|

So, nothing new.

We lost our cable last night, which meant *gasp* no Internet, no TV. I thought Andy was going to go nuts, and I wasn't far behind.

I realized that I am so used to multi-tasking that I have lost the ability to sit and pay attention to any one thing for more than 5 minutes. Even reading - I typically read during commercial breaks or when I've gotten to the end of the internets. Or, if I'm out and about, I'm reading while I'm eating or reading while I wait for the bus. Never am I only doing just one thing.

That must be why I get so antsy at the movies - nothing else to do!

We actually went to bed early last night (about 10:45ish) because there was nothing to do. Is that lame or what?

I'm considering staying home from my spinning class tonight to watch TDS/TCR repeat, because I missed it last night. :( I heard TDS was very good, since I didn't watch it.

Lame, lame, lame. Also a literal definition, since I messed up my knee last week and now I have swelling under the kneecap. Good times.

How you all been?
quidditchgrrl: (Eat it - Stephen is so better than ALL o)
I am watching CSPAN & the White House Correspondent's Dinner. Observations:

Valerie Plame is BEAUTIFUL. Femme fatale, indeed.

OMG, Anna DeVere Smith and the dude from Radio & TV Museum?! Odd couple...

Ben Rothlisberger? Ookay. HOLY SHIT! Ludacris! *ROFL* Maybe he and O'Reilly will duke it out in person tonight.

They just showed Stephen and his wife (who is thin and good-looking, darn it). He looks a little nervous, but he can still get that eyebrow up!

This is better than the Academy Awards, because I recognize more people and I hiss less at the people I don't like. More A listers here, too, and fewer handlers.

Stephen will take the stage at 10:25pm. Then TV Funhouse at 11:30pm. AAAAND, 60 Minutes interview tomorrow night. All Stephen all weekend long!

The Tick is on Toon Disney! AIEEEEEE! The Tick vs. Pineapple Pokopo!
quidditchgrrl: (I could take him)
I've finally seen the Lost pilot...a couple of days before I receive season 1 from Amazon. :P

Also figured out how my del.icio.us account works - thanks [livejournal.com profile] authenticpoppy!

Rainbow annual report finished and signed off. Holy frijoles, if I had this much trouble getting information entered in the Supreme site, I can't imagine how the older MAs are managing. Thank goodness it's done, though! GOOD NEWS - Grand Assembly sessions will be held at the Kenyon Athletic Center. Yay!

Got roped into giving yet another series of presentations at work - this time an overview of Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. *headdesk* However, trading a few hours of preparation for the agonizing hours of the disciplinary process seems a good thing. I wish we could get one of our other staff to jump into these things. It's not that hard!

OMG. Matthew Fox is on TDS. GUH. And he's wearing a gold medallion. Gold medallions + man dickey = teh sex. This is my desktop background at work. Hubba, hubba.

Now returning you to your Olympics/Colbert Report/regularly scheduled lives.
quidditchgrrl: (O.o)
Lots of things going on with my friends list today!

Virtual chicken soup & NyQuil to:
[livejournal.com profile] madlori
[livejournal.com profile] claireyfairy1
[livejournal.com profile] likebunnies, though a shot of Imitrex might work better
[livejournal.com profile] redblaze

Why, oh why no new Daily Show or Colbert Report? :-(( I am missing 3/4 of my TV watching!

So, how are YOU doing?
quidditchgrrl: (Go crazy & buy the shoes!)
My husband gets upset over the silliest stuff.

He's upstairs, stewing sleeping with the door open because I'm up watching TDS and TCR and MI-5. Possibly this is because when I'm obsessed with something, I tend to really, REALLY focus. He gets jellus. Over NERDS and SPOOKS. Although I must admit, Stephen Colbert is certainly one to be jellus of!

Yet he sees no parallel when he completely ignores me during football (and basketball, and baseball) season. (I finally put my foot down on hockey. No hockey on TV, period.)

Barring that, life is good, and I always have good vibes to send:

[livejournal.com profile] redblaze, who will be receiving solidified pleasure soon :>
[livejournal.com profile] annearchy, for her mom and family
[livejournal.com profile] likebunnies, who could use a few hundred good days
[livejournal.com profile] tonksnymphadora and [livejournal.com profile] archchancellor, who are battling bureaucracy on two continents
[livejournal.com profile] ishie, who is starting classes again
[livejournal.com profile] writers_wrath on a new job
[livejournal.com profile] blue_eye on picking up business

And some TMI, just for fun )

Night, all.
quidditchgrrl: (Read Rebelliously)
Ack. Does anyone else hate movies made to glamourize certain institutions? My niece wants to go to Annapolis, so the movie trailer is annoying me muchly.

Friday Night Lights? Varsity Blues? Whateva. Drumline? Ok, suuure. Yargh.

Stephen + Conan = the awesome. Even better: remembering to turn the VCR to channel 3 to record TDS and TCR.

I've been watching MI-5. What is the appeal of Matthew McFadyen? He's a scrawny Clive Owen look-alike...but he's growing on me. :> I might break down and see the latest P&P movie.

As I am only 4 books into the year, and my recommended reading list is only that long. Rec me a book! A good one, mind. I don't read vampire/sci-fi/fantasy-type stuff, and I hate Nora Roberts. So, what else? Fiction, non-fiction...I'm game.

Night, all.
quidditchgrrl: (Jon pwns j00!)
Awake and aware tonight after an entire weekend of insomnia. Damn it, I need to sleep! Having to wait for The Daily Show and The Colbert Report only makes it worse.

I had a realization about my recent addiction to TDS and TCR )

Honeybunch knocked over my fung shui candles. They're all out of sync. He is spatially challenged. :P
quidditchgrrl: (Scorpio after sex)
Ah, sirens. Must be Saturday night in the ghetto. Took 'em forever to turn those things off, too.

And, do you Florida people hear the theme from Jaws when you see this? You all just can't catch a break, can you? Move to Ohio! We have cheese, and lakes!

Am I the only one who is TOTALLY stoked that I Love The 80s 3D starts Monday? I have my 3D specs from Best Buy, even. *dorks out*

I am in love with Stephen Colbert, also.

This is freaking hilarious. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] photosinensis, for the link. IDiots, beware.
quidditchgrrl: (I could take him)
Okay, a question for the peanut gallery - what is it about House that you all seem to love? Honeybunch and I caught a few minutes of it this week and we were just like O.o. Anyone care to give a quick synopsis? He just came off as just another snarky asshole character.

Is Bones worth watching? True to life (any fellow forensic/anthro people out there)? I hate CSI because techs and detectives aren't busting in and out of the lab and crossing all kinds of job descriptions and such IRL. (I know, it's TV, but it bugs me)

In other news, I am a complete numbnut. I've been whining about my DVD player being broken when I have a DVD player on my PC. -.- Almost as good as the time Andy thought we had TiVo.

Watched Mind of Mencia tonight. If you get the chance, watch it. Totally hilarious.

Right now I'm watching I Am My Own Twin, which is really freaking me out. How can one not share DNA with their mother? Yet they're analyzing two women whose DNA doesn't match their children's.

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning (because they're holding my H+ blocker scrip hostage, grr) and my head is killing me from trying to get my blood sugar into the normal range. Arrgh.

ETA: You all know I'm all a-squee about the GoF trailer. Eee, hug! I might even be able to get Andy to Pittsburgh for the premiere. Whee! :D I don't think I could express my excitement quite properly at this moment...*joy*
quidditchgrrl: (Rockin' the burbs)
Hot rec for you Snarry fans out there:  Paint It Black by [livejournal.com profile] tarie.  Ron's in there too.  Hot, wow.  Totally not kid/work safe; best read late at night when you can squirm around in your chair without rousing suspicion.  :>

Heck, head over to Diagon Alley and read all of Tarie's fics.  Then review, of course.

Went to Buca di Beppo for father's day...except my dad was a no-show.  I'm not really upset about it - if he doesn't want to spend time with his family, that's his perogative.  Me, I never miss an opportunity for a good meal!  :)  My BIL is a future father, so we met criteria (same thing happened on mother's day, but my sister wasn't showing at the time, and my mom is long dead).  Both times, the servers seemed relieved to deal with "regular" customers on two of the most horrible days to be in the service industry.

In other news, I've really gotten into the show Kept.  It's different from most reality TV because the "star" doesn't do much interacting with the glory-seekers.  No hot tub scenes, no skin, just a bunch of guys trying to get over on each other.  Ego-bashing & petty arguments v. funny.  I'm rooting for Austin or Anwar - they might not be the most handsome, but they certainly are the most mature of the bunch.  Now, I just need to remember to watch...

Damn Tom Cruise and his beard antics!  I really don't want to see War of the Worlds now, just so I don't have to look at his leering, Scientolgist face.  >:O

Tagging entries is addictive.  Tags are love.
quidditchgrrl: (Glee! by _fullofgrace)
I'm going to have to start watching CSIYay Wil!
quidditchgrrl: (Daria)
AKA, the show that stole my soul.  I <3 VH1, man.  Emma Bunton has obviously had plastic surgery on her face and there is much less Mo Rocca this time around.  Boo.

Now, the high school meme )

The rant meme will be completed soon, promise.  Although invoking Britney Spears is just too easy.  :)
quidditchgrrl: (Peter by Aeryn12)
Who gets a four-day weekend?  That's right, me!  For only the second time in six years, the library will be closed tomorrow due to the weather (currently freezing rain).  I'll have to be there on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but there won't be patrons around to hinder our work, so hooray!

I ended up not going to work today anyway, because my stomach felt like it had been roto-rootered.  Hoo, mini-rant )

But!  I happened upon an episode of Lost (I never watch TV anyway, and usually I have Rainbow on Wednesday nights) and lo!  It is good.  I think I might see if I can scare up some lust for Matthew Fox.  He's kinda hot and angsty.  Mmm.

Of course, I'll forget to watch or tape it, and it will go the way of every other TV show in my mind.  Alas.

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] kaputla, for putting THAT SONG in my head.  arrhkergh

I hope you all are planning wonderful yuletime celebrations, and are getting ready for the new year!  Yay!

And no love for two-faced hangers-on who build themselves up by tearing down other people.  Karma, baby.

ETA: We're under a blizzard warning! Woo! :D

They are playing the video for the Lemonheads' remake of "Mrs. Robinson."

Evan Dando = the pretty.

I have been transported back to high school and all those emo crushes...bless you, VH1 Classics.
