So, I talked to my dad about the deductible for the car. Yay. I feel so grown up, asking for money. -.-

Kirsten Dunst makes so many movies that have potential, then fall flat on their celluloid arses.

There are so many great movies coming out on DVD right now. On my entertainment center I have:

Must Love Dogs (Honeybunch wants to see this, must be for Diane Lane)
Proof (The Jake Gyllenhaal!)
Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
Ringers: Lord of the Fans
Walk the Line
Country Boys (a PBS documentary that's been getting great reviews)
North Country
Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo (shut up.)
The Ice Harvest
Jarhead (2x The Jake!)

I still have to finish the second season of MI-5 and start on my Lost DVDs. AND I try to watch The Daily Show and Colbert Report four nights a week.

How in the world do you all do it?
quidditchgrrl: (Used panty machine. Learning Japanese s)
In the interest of posting crap on my journal, here's some picspam of my new (three-months-new) niece:

Not much else new 'round here. No new Lost, watched Corpse Bride (very cute) tonight.

Oh, car will be done in about 2 weeks. *headdesk* They didn't total it, thank goodness. Now to hit up Dad for funds. Yay. -.-

The plus side of this is that I'm getting about 2 hours more gym time. Not the most efficient way to make time to go to the gym, but I'm reaping the benefits. And the bus isn't crowded going to work in the early afternoon.
quidditchgrrl: (Jello is good for you. Also better.)
So, Happy New Year, y'all.

Spent the countdown on the couch watching ESPN - I couldn't take Dick Clark. Poor guy. :(

Did the 2nd annual HP NYE lunch at Gordon Biersch. Nothing like getting tipsy at one in the afternoon, let me tell you. Met a few new people from the Cincy area (I think). Looked a good space to have a Halloween party/Yule Ball this year - the Underground at Barley's Ale House.

Hugged [livejournal.com profile] rlanto as had not seen her for a few weeks and not since the big news. *squishes*

Made plans to see Brokeback Mountain with [livejournal.com profile] slytherinesq and [livejournal.com profile] slythjenn next weekend. I know I will need to see this movie many, many times. :>

Heading out to Red Lobster for late lunch today. No resolutions aside from the hope that I will be healthier, wealthier and wiser than ever before.

Ta, all.

I just saw Donnie Darko for the first time tonight.  My head is alllll messed up.
quidditchgrrl: (JRM Sexy by crazymo14588)
I haven't done one of these in...ever, I think. But this one sounded interesting.

1) Who or what is on your computer's wallpaper?
Here at work (where I am this rainy day), Ian Thorpe wearing Armani :9 Yummy!

2. Go through your DVD/pre-bought video collection. Which three actors or actresses feature the most in them?
*thinks* Let's see, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant and Renee Zellweger (even tho' I hate her, hate, hate, hate). Our video collection contains mainly Kevin Smith films though. Ooh, and I believe I have several Alan Rickman flicks as well. *makes note to watch some movies tonight*

3. Go through your book shelves. Which three authors have written the majority of the books?
Most of my books are textbooks/cookbooks (I don't buy books very often and when I do I give them to other people). Hm, Shakespeare, Ann Rand, and most of Tennessee Williams' works are down there though.

4. And what about CDs?
Billy Joel, RHCP, and Sarah McLachlan

6. And what about your LiveJournal user pictures?
Harry Potter, and I'm in love with the icons I got from http://ail.hopelessly-devoted.net/main.html last night.

I am seriously jonesing for The Pumpkin, man.  I blame [livejournal.com profile] kaputla and her icon for this.  Mmm, pumpkin donuts and chicken and noodles.  :9  Only 16 more days, as the Great Pumpkin says.

I can't remember who said it ([livejournal.com profile] abigail89?), but yes, the months leading up to a wedding are the most stressful times in one's life.  Honeybunch and I barely see each other at this point, and when we do, we are either arguing over stupid shit or I'm screaming about the latest thing that's gotten FUBARed.

Latest news, and it's ugly )

But yay!  Bridal shower on Saturday!  Will finally get to see [livejournal.com profile] hastyent, as have not seen her for many weeks.  And will have yummy carrot cake and play games.  Not sure about bachelorette party, may just end up going out to dinner and having a few drinks.  I have pussed out mightily since my college days.  :(  And I can't drink since having my surgery...had some beer at [livejournal.com profile] generalmanda's house, and it didn't work out so well.  Ick.  Boo.

When I first added Napoleon Dynamite to my interests list, there were 4 communitities and maybe 25 people.  Now it's 95 and 493.  That boy sure does get around.  :D

Inevitably around this time of year - pre-Pumpkin Show, that is - I will buy a box of pumpkin donuts from Kroger, thinking that they will actually taste like pumpkin.  They never do.

There will be no NaNoWriMo for me.  It's tough enough going without the pressure to churn out tons of words in a month.  Will plod along slowly, much like the tortoise.

For this, there are no words.

Much love, you all.

Ah, good food, movies and friends! Visited [livejournal.com profile] 1anonymous1 and [livejournal.com profile] hastyent in their 'hood, ate pizza and watched the pretties the Olympics.

I never realized how sexy men's floor exercises were. *cough*

Also completely in agreement with all favorable statements about the Hamm twins. Guh. They're my new mental Gred-and-Forge. *studiously avoids any and all jokes about food!sex*

Swimming heats, aptly named. Have never seen a person from Japan look quite so yummy.

Er, back to coherent post. Good food day - ate 3 slices of pizza and had cake batter ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery - yum!

Cait got us in to see The Bourne Supremacy for free, so we were able to absorb the hotness that is Karl Urban and Matt Damon. Jason/Kirill - OTP! <3 The stare, so slashy (although part of that might be the fact that it was the only time the camera was somewhat still during the film).

I really need to get back on a normal sleep schedule, but I can't cause [livejournal.com profile] chickadilly keeps putting ideas into my brain! You should move here Lea, I'd never get sick of you!!!!!! *loffs*
quidditchgrrl: (Me!)
Yes, today was v. v. good. Took a short nap *in bed* and ran several errands, all without pain. Woo for that.

Left message for [livejournal.com profile] hastyent last night and got vm from her today. Made me smile a little. :)

Finished a beta job on a decent H/G fic (first beta for a stranger in a looong time). Go me!

Saw The Bourne Supremacy with [livejournal.com profile] rachet and [livejournal.com profile] madlorivoldmort. Much with the camera-shaking - it was tough to pay attention to what was actually happening because the frame was juttering so much. But there were car chases and lots of action and let's not forget The Pretty.

*Steadfastly ignores DNC speeches* So long as Ralph Nader doesn't have his name on the ballot in Ohio, we're cool guys.

Good luck to [livejournal.com profile] kaputla - have fun in Florida!

ETA: I want an apple. Just sayin'.

Honeybunch said something very wise last night regarding the entire [livejournal.com profile] ladyanabelle mess.

I've been keeping my mouth firmly shut about it, since he gets upset when I spend too much time playing on the 'net now or if I get upset at fandom goings on (did you know myeloblastomas are exacerbated by stress *snort*). Yeah, I know, I shouldn't let it get to me, but sometimes it does.

I'm explaining this to him, and comparing the HP fandom to SW or LOTR or Star Trek, who have more than their fair share of nutters. I look upon the HP fandom as a more 'mainstream' fandom - a lot of people here have kids, spouses, and lead fairly 'normal' lives. Not many Comic Book Guys, if you catch my drift. And the HP fandom is pretty young in comparison.

"Well, you need to start paying more attention to people," says Honeybunch.
"Oh yeah, but..." I go into my 'people in this fandom are expected to be somewhat genuine' speech.
"But it's slowly developing the same way those other fandoms did, I'm sure. More people, more websites, more anonymity to be whoever you want."

And damn it, he's right. And here I am hoping this would be a one-off. It wasn't. It won't be. *chants Constant Vigilance!*

Oh, and myeloblastoma? That's what I have - smooth muscle tumor - growing in my abdomen at the moment. They are 99% sure it's not cancerous but that's what they told my cousin ) so yeah, we'll wait and see. I see the surgeon on Monday and maybe, just maybe, I can be in for surgery before heading to Grand Assembly with my girls on July 8. I'm not holding my breath though. But hooray for progress anyway.

Am taking the girls to see PoA on Friday :> I so only asked them, and they all wanted to go! *grins* Went to the IMAX showing on Monday with [livejournal.com profile] ishie and her friend Maryann. Much fangirliness was had, IMAX v. awesome. I have figured out that I lust (and I'm using the term very loosely here) for Dan only when he's Harry. This is normal and good, yes? Glasses off = no good. Glasses on = oh yeah. < /random thought of the day>
quidditchgrrl: (why choose?)
Um, yeah. Finding Nemo capped off a very busy week. Looks like you lot have been busy too.

Cannot figure out how to view the Checkmated NYE challenge fics. :(( Help!

Cut for space concerns and so's not to bore you too terribly )

Random thoughts:

1. Caramel calcium chews are the best.
2. Colin Farrell only looks good in sex scenes. He's the epitome of eye candy, all floofy goodness. :D
3. I am down almost another size. Yes, I know, it's so hard shopping for new clothes. ;-) But it's also annoying when your old clothes simply don't fit anymore. And I'm getting used to the fact that losing weight really is a lifestyle change.
4. I have a copy of Harrison Bergeron. Let the fat hobbit love begin!
quidditchgrrl: (I didn't do it created by CamillaBloom)
My year is going to go out very nicely, I think. This week has nearly made up for all the shit of the past few months.

Saw ROTK this weekend. It was...spectacular. [livejournal.com profile] hastyent asked me what I thought, but I can't do much analysis as I've not read the books. She gave me good advice (read Two Towers first, then Return of the King, and Fellowship of the Ring last) so I'll make another attempt. But, the movie! I don't think I stopped crying after Boromir left to meet the Orcs for the second time. And yes, I respected the pretty, oh yes I did. :D (I did not, however, respect the parents who brought along their 2-year-old for a three and a half hour movie *stabs*)

I have also been AFK, shopping. Not just shopping, but shopping because my pants are too big!!!! :D I have, since May, lost a grand total of 18 pounds. Fifteen of that went during my spinning class (and some of it due to the increased physical demands of my current job). I'm now down to the size I was in high school, two pant sizes from a year ago. I'm going in for an evaluation tomorrow at the gym. My goal is to get out of plus sizes and wear normal people clothes for the first time in my life.

Yes, my friends, the last couple of weeks have been very, very good to me. We're getting a raise at work, despite the continued budget crunch for libraries, and a 2% cost-of-living increase. More money in the new year! That's never a bad thing.

And since I rarely make resolutions, I decided this would be the year to have one or two:

1. Get my daily intake of calcium.
2. Get married.

Both doable, yes? Here's to 2004 being a fair sight better than 2003 for everyone! *throws confetti*
